Audi has added the first in what company insiders suggest will eventually be an extended range of SUVs to its high performance RS line-up with the unveiling of the 306bhp turbocharged 2. 5-litre five-cylinder powered RS Q3.Set to get its first public outing at the Geneva motor show in early March, the new RS Q3 crowns the popular Q3 line-up with performance that puts it at the sharp end of the compact SUV ranks, ahead of competition such as the 242bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder BMW X1 for outright straight line pace. But with more athletic competition in the form of Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming GLA45 AMG, which is set to receive the same 354bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine as the recently revealed A45 AMG, looming, the powered up Q3 won’t be starved for direct rivals.Read Article

Steamroll? You do realize that the X1 can be purchased with the turbo 6 good for 300 hp. It starts at roughly $39k vs the Audi, that according to the article, will start at £42k or $64k based on current currency conversion. So no, I'd say not even close. — Clutch (View Profile)

Clutch, you do realize the currency conversion rates are NEVER accurate. I'd say the RS Q3 will be priced around $45K. Sure, it's a price premium over the X1 with 300 horsepower V-6, but so is the performance.— GermanNut (View Profile)

I love seeing all these BMW fans trying to bash Audi's RS performance credentials and calling Audis a "rebadged Golf."The BMW fanboys are obviously worried that Audi is going to dethrone BMW as the world's best-selling premium luxury brand. They are also worried that the BMW M5, once regarded as the premier car in its class, lost to Audi's S6 and Mercedes-Benz's E63 AMG (non-4Matic at that) in the Car and Driver comparison test. They also can't seem to realize that Audi's pricing strategy provides Audi with a distinct advantage over BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Pay less for a car with equal or better quality, luxury, performance and technology.— GermanNut (View Profile)

If the RS Q3 is priced at 45K, it will not be much of a premium (feature-for-feature) over an M-Sport X1 xDrive35i. The 3 German manufacturers always price pretty closely to each other and the Audi versions are sometimes less. I'm not sure why this argument comes up repeatedly.— AlleVier (View Profile)

germannut ... what are you speaking about? Are you chatting in audi tongues with your ridiculous bashing of BMW's? I am glad you bring up the S6 vs the M5 comparison as in the article , the S6 equalled the BMW from 0 to 60 ( 3.7 to 3.7 ) , yet the M5 dusted the S6 to 100 mph by a FULL Second ( 9.2 for S6 vs 8.1 for M5 ) , 0 to 130 the gap is 3 second, the M5 was faster is passing gears yet the S6 won based on things being subjective and the price about $18k less. Those are just the facts, yet I love how you can't wait to say the same things over and over again. Is it possible for you to come up with a New Arguement or New Idea? — BMW4me4ever (View Profile)

Regarding the C&D article that compared the Audi S6 to the BMW M5 and MB E63 AMG; my arguement still holds true. Just read the quote below:"S6 wasn’t created to be the last word in performance for this model line. You get twin turbos on a V-8, you get larger wheels and tires, you get scads of ?interior details, but you only get so much additional performance. The S6 is 98-hp less murderous than the next-most-powerful contender, the E63.Okay, but aside from us just telling you all that, how would you know? The acceleration times to 60 mph are practically a dead heat. The cabin is richly furnished with special treatments such as carbon-fiber-pattern trim and high-backed, deeply hugging sport buckets with a lovely diamond-pleat pattern repeated on the rear seats. The S6 sits low and crouched, its wheel wells stuffed with aluminum and rubber. Goose it, and the V-8 sounds technically gifted and expensive while the seven-speed is both immediate and seamless, and the standard rear torque-vectoring differential helps overcome the front weight bias. The twist gets distributed to all four wheels, and even with the extra Quattro driveshafts, the Audi’s curb weight still lands between those of the E63 and the M5. The S6’s back seat was judged the roomiest for two, its instrument panel the most attractive, and its navigation and radio interface the easiest to use. What are we missing here? Why do the other cars need 18 to 20 grand more in cash due at signing?"Bottom line: Audi's S6 and just about every other Audi (except the RS models) offers you similar levels of performance, technology, quality and luxury as BMW and Mercedes-Benz but the cost is less and sometimes significantly less.— GermanNut (View Profile)

RS what a joke. Well actually the RS badge has no real heritage or philosophy, to disappoint people with, but a fwd biases awd cute ute with a single tail pipe is beyond pointless for a performance badge. It's no faster than the sq5. Another disappointment by RS..actually I can't even remember the last time RS produced a class leading performance car enthusiasts (other than under steer enthusiasts) wanted.— PQ40 (View Profile)

The RS5 is slower & Has lost EVERY comparison test to the M3 which is 5 years old. Yet you back the RS models as they are the bible, yet I understand your compassion for Audi. I love the arguement which makes little sense about the A4, Q5 ( not sure that is a valid arguement ) & the A6 as being the bulk of sales for Audi , yet in the same breath criticize BMW 3-series for accounting for 34% of the sales. So you are arguing that the A4 & A6 account for 70% of the sales worldwide for Audi & it is wrong for the BMW 3-series to account for 1/3 of the sales for BMW? Huh .... — BMW4me4ever (View Profile)

BMW4me4ever, the 5 to 1 ratio is probably a bit too high. Yes, BMW has the edge historically but the keyword is "historically". There is no denying that in recent comparison tests within the last 4-5 years, Audi has bested BMW by a huge margin.Audi's global sales growth over the past 5 years mirrors its recent comparison test wins against BMW and Mercedes-Benz.— GermanNut (View Profile)

Yes, Audi has made huge gains in the past 5 years. Maybe in your mind Audi hasn't. The 3-series won over the A4, but the S4 has won over the 335i, the A6 has won over the 5-series, S6 over the M5, A8 over the 7-series, S8 over the Alpina B7, Q7 over the X5, Q5 over the X3, Q3 over the X1 and the A7 over the 6-series Gran Coupe, etc.I'm not going to go back and find each and every article but Audi has made huge gains.— GermanNut (View Profile)

I am not saying Audi has not made huge gains. Did you even read what I wrote? The A6 hasnt bested the 5-series is every comparison test, nor has the A8, nor has the S6, the S8, the Q7 ( that one is humourous ) and so on. a test here and there yes, but if you go back ( which is what you mention over the past 5 years ) those models are a dead heat. Where as the 3-series has basically beaten Audi in every test whether it is the M3, 328i sedan or the 335i sedan. Dont bring up the last 5 years in an arguement if you are unwilling to base your arguement on actual facts or willing to do the actual research to support your opinions. Otherwise it has no substance and therefore not a valid arguement. — BMW4me4ever (View Profile)

NO, you only post certain tests and then throw out when BMW bests everyone by saying the magazine is biased or something along those lines. If you look over the last 5 years that Audi has made great strides and has done very well in compared to BMW is the large car segment of the 5-series and 7-series. Against the X5 not so much and not very well vs. the M cars unless you count the latest where the S6 was clearly outmatched by both Mercedes & BMW yet won based on creature comforts and price .... Vs the 3-series sedan, coupe, convertible & M3 Audi still lags by a long time ... — BMW4me4ever (View Profile)

Its's only part pf the 3-series segment where Audi is lacking. The S4 has continuously beaten the 335i. The 328i vs A4 2.0T and M3 vs. RS4 are the only two matchups where BMW has a clear edge. In all other segments, A6 vs. 5-series, A7 vs. 6-series Gran Coupe, A8 vs. 7-series, Q5 vs. X3, Q7 vs. X5, R8 vs. M6 Audi has multiple wins.If you want to say the S6 won because of creature comforts and price then the BMW 6-series Gran Coupe won by the same measures in the MotorTrend article where it beat the S7.— GermanNut (View Profile)

Lol, the 6 gc didn't beat the s7 in the MT comparo b/c of price considering it cost more, it won because it drove better and had the best steering feel. Also the x3 just beat the q5 in the new issue of CD.And regarding the s4, BMW is realigning its models so the m performance cars match up to Audi s cars. the standard 335 is designed to appeal to a larger audience than the sportier s4. The m335i will compare to the s4.— bmwm6 (View Profile)
