Does Anyone Know What Car This Is?
One of our readers, Fred passed on this shot and wanted to know what type of car it is undercover.

Since we never have seen it we are passing it on to our spies at large to assist in the identification.

Does anyone know what this is?

possible Pontiac G8? (just guessing from the front angles / grill)

I think more of a redesigned G6. Since the G8 is being manufactured in Australia alongside its Holden brother, I highly doubt GM would change the front end of the G8 that much.

The G8 is a four-door sedan, the design of which has been known for a few years.

BMW 5 series. I see a kidney grill, a roundel symbol and swept back headlamps.
But since you think Pontiac...and since the 5 isn't due for ages...
I have looked closely and I think Pontiac, I did not know Pontiac also had the same grill design, and also since this shot is from the US, not Germany.

Why would the G8 be under so much camouflage if it's already been shown to the public? Use your head.

wow, I think it is a mazda. now that I look at those other pics, it certainly looks like a mazda's grill under that disquise. not the clean pontiac honeycomb inserts that I normally see. Oh well. I was wrong.

Well, if "SoCal" says it's a Pontiac then it must be a....Mazda. The grill only appears to be kidney shaped because of the masking.

why are you retards saying it's a G8 when Pontiac has all ready OFFICIALLY UNVEILED THE DAMN CAR. There'd be no need for them to cover it up since it's all ready been shown.

That's a 5 series guys. Rupert mentioned the kidney grill and those bug-eye elise-esque head lamps are camoed and it looks like the silhouette of BMW 5 series headlights under there. Tough to tell though.

The grill is too obvious. I'm going to guess it's the next Maxima. It has Nissan mirrors and has a similiar silhouette as the current Altima.

However, the wheels look the same as the last gen Honda Civic Si sedan's, except bigger. So it could be the Accord sedan.

I looked at clues like overhead telephone wires, types of trees, and the big-city background that includes a multi-storey parking facility but I do not recognize the city or the car. This could be in Northern Europe or in Canada or in the U.S. I even blew up the photo on my high-resolution iMac. The grille almost looks like a Mercedes grille disguised to look like a BMW grille but the 2008 C-class has already been shown to the public. The 5-spoke wheels are probably deliberately misleading. Could this be an older picture of a car already revealed by now?

Honda Accord.

A-pillar junction, windshield angle, mirrors, grille (which is not split under the masking) and heavy door frames around the glass point to Honda.

I think that's the test mule for the 2010 Delorean.

If you look closely at the interior you can just make out the optional fluxcapacitor.

New Altima in front, 2000 Accord behind. I'm going to say it's the next Maxima since chances are the company would send out their newest cars to accompany any test runs, not an Accord from almost 2 generations back.

It is not the 5 series. BMW never uses 5 spoke rims on test mules, just the ugly looking ones used on lower models. The body does not look BMWish. I think its japanese. Maybe the Honda accord.

The car it is trailing is an Infiniti G35 or M, the car itself appears to be similar in height and width. The mask does make you think Pontiac, but I think the car is too narrow and it the mirror, alloys, short rear deck and wider track creates a Pontiac look. But the wheels seem narrow for a Pontiac. Reminds me of the old GTO a bit… I don’t think it is Nissan or Mercedes as the hood and side lines are not defined enough. My vote is Pontiac… The picture could be old as well.

I guess the question is where did this Fred guy snap the picture. That would provide additional context.

Isn't it a sad state of affairs when we can't pin down the manufacturer of a car from its shape? People have suggested everything from Pontiacs to Nissans, BMWs to Toyotas, etc. - this wouldn't have happened a few years ago.
Why can't we have an original design? I want my car to stand out in the car park.

When it's under heavy camouflage, do you honestly think we could tell from the shape of a sedan what car it is? When there's no camo, obviously, we'll be able to tell- but now?!

The photo-location is 41 miles south of San Francisco. Its on a road parallel to 101-S and the building is the former Exodus COrporation HQ. THe exit is the Great America Parkway exit off 101.
The 2 cars ahead of it are an older Taurus and the new Altima. In California, they needn't bother disguising the Pontiac G6/8. Nobody buys them except for Hertz. This isn't the G8, either. THe G8 profile will have less of a upslope on the rearflanks.
Either way I couldn't care- just thought I'd tell you all where this is.

Hi jagexpert, I'm still pondering the overhead telephone wires and trees. We need help from a government spook who has access to satellite images to positively identify the location. I fear that some clues in the pic have been planted to deliberately mislead. Credible testimonials as to location could be verified by all using Google Earth. BTW, there are several companies that call themselves Exodus Corporation ranging from web hosting to totally non-technical activities. I saw a posting above referring to Exodus Corporation and would like to know what this company does so I can try and get a confirming pic from their annual report as to the location of their HQ.

ok so don't let yourself be fooled by the mask.
you all say, ooh its a bmw 1 series or the new mazda 6, and perhaps it could be.
but when GM designs their vehicles, they design them differently to make them distinct.
for instance: look at the bottom of the front fender, when they applied the mask you can see a void on the bottom where the long vent/ fog light assembly is. that is the same assembly as on the G6.
the mirrors: the same mirrors as on the G6, G5, cobalt, and impala.
and the shape of the hood is the same as the G6, unlike bmw's as to where the lines of the hood are more seemless and blend with the grill.
it is a sedan, hard to say if its a G8, G5, or G6, but if i had to guess i would say G6.
and also the position of the grill is too low for it to be a bmw. it is most deffinately a pontiac design/redesign.
oh and these photos were indeed taken in the us.
the honda civic behind it has us plates.
