EPA rates 2010 Ford Fusion S at 23/34 mpg: Tops Camry and Accord

Wonderful! Good Job Ford! Finally something attractive in the midsize segment that has a good fuel economy and is attractively priced.

Props to Ford for bouncing back. Out of the Big three, Ford seems to be the only one turning things around while the other to are begging for cash and burning it just like they did with their own money. I actually see Ford becoming a real competitor again. Their design is taking after their Euro division (which is fantastic) and their fuel efficiency is great too as we can tell. They just need to fix their reliability, or it's image at least of being known as Found On Road Dead.

Awesome looking car! Way to go Ford! It looks like I'll be buying Ford stocks a lot sooner than I was planning. Good initial quality is a great step in the right direction even though the Japanese may be slightly ahead in terms of long term quality, the American's aren't too far behind. Although this is great for Ford, it's even better for the consumers.

I'd have to take the 240bhp V6. 175bhp just doesn't do it for me, no matter what the fuel economy is. But, kudos to Ford anyway for the competitive fuel economy numbers. Now, as long as they make sure the interior is up to snuff, they can continue to compete with Honda and Toyota.

From the EPA, the passenger volume for the Fusion and Camry are both 101 cubic feet, the Accord is 106. The trunk space for the Fusion is 16 cubic feet, Camry is 15 and the accord 14. So this is apples to apples. These numbers are for non-hybrid versions. The hybrids suffer some in trunk space.

The 2009 Camry Hybrid gets 33 mpg in the city... how is 23 mpg 8 mpg better than the Camry? The Camry also gets 34 mpg on the highway, so it is not 2 mpg worse than the Fusion.

How can the '10 Fusion S be the most fuel-efficient sedan when Ford's own Fusion Hybrid gets better gas mileage? Not to mention, how about the '09 Jetta TDI, rated at 30 city/41 hwy with the 6-speed manual? That is a non-hybrid car and tops the '10 non-hybrid Fusion S. Not to mention that the Jetta TDI has an EPA-rated advantage of 5 mpg on the highway on the Fusion Hybrid.
