Good news. But they must reduce ALL emissions too (NOx, PM, HC etc).

They are, Euro V standards (2008) require an 80% drop in PM than Euro 4 for diesel cars.
nox is also being reduced, as are HC.
Unlike the US, Europe consitently and continually refines its environmental targets.

Exactly, the US and Canada are still one of the most polluting countries in the world.

China has just overtaken the US (I mean literally just this month).

CO2 is not the worst enemy. Methane is a far more potent greenhouse gas for example. We need to first clean up the carcinogens that industry spews into the atmosphere and into our food supply. Why is it that politicians always attack the easiest target instead of solving the worst problems first. Politicians just want to be seen to be doing something and don't work hard enough to solve real problems between the present and the next election. Curb world population and the CO2 problem goes away by itself. BTW, 10 or 15 thousand years from now we may be glad to have lots of CO2 in the atmosphere to protect us from the effects of the next ice age.

ice age is inevitable occurance that will eventually be here in next few thousand years..(I believe its every 8 thousand years..yes it is cyclic) but only thing we really are doing is just expediting this phenominan.

"Curb world population and the CO2 problem goes away by itself."

Great. Who volunteers to be first to go?

Indeed there are many pollutants that are highly dangerous, but only CO2 is currently unregulated. To balance airborne carbon back to pre-industrial levels, we must either curb emissions or plant a few billion trees ... or both.

If you live in a rural area that hasn't yet been paved over with urban sprawl and concrete, you probably don't notice an air quality problem. If you live in a city, then you should -- and you should vote to do something about it.
