When MINI went from producing simply the Cooper to the Countryman, a lot of folks asked "why?" No one articulated it particularly well but Fiat has managed to do so at the launch of its Countryman competitor, the 2014 500L.

One of the key things Fiat's market research noted was that buyers of the teeny tiny 500 were in a pre-family stage of their life. Clearly, a standard 500 isn't exactly optimal for a baby seat and ease of use. It's fun, cute and easy to park but at the end of the day you need something MORE than that when a little bit of you enters your world.

And that's why the 500L was birthed.

It's plan is to increase brand loyalty and also nab market share at the same time for those families that want to have fun and do it in some Italian style. If there's one thing the brand gets right, that'd have to be it.

That said, I went through Agent 001's photos from the Baltimore launch and pulled out some of the good slides from Fiat's deck. Not only do you get why the product was created, in addition, you get to find out some really nifty details about the all-new L.

It's clear that this is a very aggressively priced option in the market and with the variety of trim levels or "personalities," it's obvious this vehicle should meet just about everyone's needs.
