EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: The New Mazda 6 Has a HOT Bod But Is Its Interior Nice Enough To Challenge The Leaders?
SpyGuy Freddy K. continued on his roll of catching the new Mazda 6 interior with his trusty cell phone camera.

Fred showed us the exterior of the new 6 about a week ago and everyone was pretty high on the exterior design.

But a good exterior needs a good interior and cars like the new Accord really excel on the inside.

So in your opinon, does the new 6 have the goods to truly challenge the ruling class in this segment and is it as good as or better than the other new challenger, the new Nissan Maxima?

I'm sure it'll be plenty nice. Several magazine writeups have called the Mazda6 a "poor man's Lexus" inside, which isn't a bad thing. It definitely has the best looking exterior in the Accord/Camry/Altima crowd.

You thought wrong. We get these ideas from having taste, being less than 60 and having good eye sight, all unlike the average camry owner.

Poor mans Lexus ES = Camry XLE. In a recent magazine review of the CX7 now - they wrote something...if u can't afford a Range Rover Sport or Cayenne...CX7 is closest~, now that is soo true.

that's smart, deboost me for repeating something magazines have said that you don't agree with. I haven't even been in the car to form my own opinion (nor have you).

What an ingenious boost/deboost system we have here.

IMO I feel that the interior is a good as anybodies out there right now. Even the Accord that has interior quality down to a science no body I know who owns it likes the lay out as much as the old one.

Mazda seriously should stop copying BMW. It was BMW 3 series before and now this time they copied BMW 6 series.

No wonder Mazda is always a poor man's BMW.

Dude that was so stupid the only response it deserves is telling you how stupid it was. Mazda is considered the poor man's BMW, because unlike its competition they're fun to drive, just like BMW's.

While youre talking, m-b should be called the stupid man's chrysler; the looks and quality of a chrysler, with the pricetag that only a badgeho would pay.

Interior is generic, just like Altima's. Nice, but generic. At least Camry and Accord have some character and distinction. But this is just from photos in an all-black interior, so we'll see.

The interiors of the camcord have the character and distinction of a bologna sandwich on white bread with no mayo. Plain. Boring. Unappealing.

I test drove the Mazda CX-7 yesterday. The 4 Cylinder engine was way underpowered getting on the highway. The dashboard is very cheap and confusing to the driver. It is very Busy and lit up with cheap LED gauges everywhere. This Dash could use less cheap LEDs and a choice of richer materials (Aluminum or Wood accents) It felt like a minivan and it was hard to see out the sides and back. The Lincoln MKX or Ford Edge is a lot nicer.
CX-9 is very Nice!
The Dashboard is clean and sporty. It doesn’t have wood, but it has some black imitation marble, it could use some metal chrome latch handles inside and out. It is longer and more roomier than the edge. It comes with Bridgestone Turanza Touring tires which I like, Ford gives Pirellies on the Limited Model.
I think the Ford and Lincoln Chrome rims are nicer than the painted silver rims on the CX-9. I think the CX-9 would look better with the Ford Edge 20” Chrome Rims.

One drawback is that the Dealer had hundreds of CX-9s in stock, but every one was either Black or Silver. I seen a few red ones, but I’d rather have the Mazda Light Green or the Ford Icy blue. Lighter colors keep the interior cooler. I have only seen Black interiors, no grey or camel.

I noticed Mazda doesn’t have Microsoft Synch, a major drawback which has me leaning toward Ford or Lincoln. Especially since New York has hefty fines for Cel-phone use in the car. Still, the CX-9 would be the car to drive on a long vacation or business trip. But I would still need to drive the CX-9 to see if it has more power than the CX-7 I drove. It should as the V6 is the same engine from the Ford Edge. The CX-9 is probably heaver though with the extended wheel base.

The 4.6L or Lincoln 3.9L V8 would have been a better choice I think.

When gas gets expensive, people rush to buzz words like V6 or 4cylinder. As soon as gas prices stabilize, people rush to trade in under-powered cars for engines that have some horsepower for highway driving. History seems to repeat itself over and over I guess.

I have a CX7 as well. What LED's? I have the FWD GT, AWD r much slower. No, this thing is muuuuch tighter and more responsive than the Edge and MKX. Edge an MKX drive typical soft and smooth. The CX7 makes up for everything when the turbo starts hissing and ur able to hold it in gear.

Almost all the CX-9s and CX7s were All Wheel Drive. there was only 1 or 2 models that were Front Drive. It took hours of walking the lot to find a front drive. All wheel drive tends to be heavy on Gas and wears tires funny, I'd rather special order Front Drive in a more suitable color.

I like this new generation Mazda 6. The one right now looks very cheap at the base model. And you have to look into a MazdaSpeed 6 range to see some major differences. This one looks great. The interior looks pretty well made as well.

A winner for Mazda.

I like it, it's very simple. Doesn't overwhelm you with buttons like the Accord or have ugly green plastics like the Camry. Attractive and functional, you can't ask for anything more. This is the best midsizer, IMO.

Best, kind of a stretch. Nice yes. Mazda seems to always come up short somewhere, this car may be diff. Mazda always feel a little cheap, maybe a little less rich (plastic pieces) is a better way to say it. That is in comparision to the Accord, Camry, or TSX for that matter.

I can't tell much from the photos but it does look modern but as others have said, pretty derivative. Can't tell much about materials quality either but if they're good then I would put it equal with Altima, better than Camry and not quite as good as Accord.

The 2009 Maxima interior though, (mentioned in the article) blows them all away, as it should, being a step above them all in price.

get real, this thing shares very little with any current ford model. It barely even shares anything with the previous mazda6. Besides, the 6 was the basis for the fusion/milan, not the other way around.

The CX7 was underpowered for me. Although I don't think much of 4 cylinder engines, I was very Impressed with the VW Tiguan 4 cylinder turbo. It has acceleration more on par with my V8 Mercury, which until the test drive I never would have thought possible. I don't know how the Germans squeeze out all that horsepower out of a small engine. The Japaneese build cars for a lot less, but you seem to get less in performance and quality. The CX7 just seemed sub standard for me. I will say that I do like the CX-9, but I have yet to drive it.

Anyone who thinks the CX-7 has more power than the Lincoln MKX just doesn't know what they are talking about. Clearly the MKX or even the Edge has a nicer interior, although I don't like the guages on the Edge. The MKX guages and Dash are very nice and so are the CX-9. But the CX-7 just reminds me of an econo-box. Lincoln MXK and Mazda CX-9 warms the dash up with some wood. CX-9 gets wood with the Grand Touring. The other trim levels get the fake black marble.

I’m unsure about the Mazda 6. I’m considering this model, but I don’t want another underpowered car with a small trunk and small interior like my Chrysler 300. And it seems the Mazda 6 is even smaller than the Chrysler 300. On a business trip, I had the Chrysler 300 Loaded, and could see out the back window, and the car had trouble pulling long grades.

I don’t want another $25,000 mistake.

Gas mileage stickers look great, until you really have to use the car for real work, and real world activities. I don't know how Chrysler can call the 300 a flagship sedan, it seems more like a mid-size car.

Does anyone know if the Mazda 6 will have the Icy Blue color available. Seems Mazda is limited to only a couple of color choices. Black or Silver. Silver is the easiest to keep clean, black is the toughest color to keep cleen. I'd lke to see some Camel or Brown leather interiors. Black is rather dated already.
