In silver it looks really generic.

in white it looks like a barge.

I'm really sorry. The press photos hinted at promise, but in the light of day it looks bland and not befitting a car of this price range.

No doubt it is well appointed and refined, but when you fork out his much for a car, you expect something more than that.

Will, I won't be taking up your offer.

That new ToyLex LS has the face of a Pokemon cartoon character.

That's the way I see it.

It looks way better than the BMW 7 and that is all that matters. In Quality it is decades ahead dg the German counterparts. The 7 and the S have another headache and it is called the LS.

i can only see one problem with the car...and that is the rims. I guess they make you spring for the 18" graphite ones that probably look better.

BTW, people who keep saying that the taillights look like the 7 series need to get a good look at the new lexus line ups. ALL OF THEM have this style now from the side...so this arguement should have begun with the GS, and the ES, and the IS before the LS came out. Sorry, but if all models have this, then its not copying bmw, its just following the pattern.

I cannot stand Lexus and I could never understand why people buy them and say that they are the best. They are all rebadged toyotas. Lexus should not be compared to Audi,BMW,Cadillac,Mercedes-Benz,and Maserati.

looks like someone took a camry and blew it up like a baloon. no other LS has looked this much like a toyota. if it had the 'T' on it instead of the 'L' i'd swear these were shots of a new Avalon. i can't believe someone said this design is 'trendy'! VERY dissappointing!!! it makeds even the 7 series look like a beauty queen.

The New LS looks beautiful yet imposing, just as a flagship should look. It blends its stylistic elements together much more smoothly than the 7-series, and does not make excessive design cues like the new S-class.

I wonder how the aerodynamics are on this car, the new shape looks like it will slice through the air quite efficiently. At last we have an LS where the exterior refinement nearly matches the interior luxury.

Now if only I had spare $60,000-85,000 to spend...

three2four,

cadillacs are rebadged chevrolets.
cadillacs are terrible.
lexus, while dull, at least makes good cars.
cadillac should only be compared to lincoln, and possibly infiniti and acura.
i can't understand why anyone would buy a cadillac
lexus, m-b, audi etc are a quite a few steps up.

Trendy? Beautiful? Design more modern than A8 or Quattroporte?

How is bland modern? How is bland beautiful? Who said trendy meant bland?

The quattroporte is timeless and mixes contemporary and classic design cues harmoniously. The A8 is solid, assured and understated. Bold lines but not one out of place.

the new LS is just bland. No other way to describe it. You could talk about its unimaginative surface treatments, or how it is slab-sided, or how badly the rear lights integrate into the design, or how the front and rear are inelegantly bluff.

We could go into these stylistic details, or we could sum all these elements up into one word.

Bland.

lol friggin christ. this debate never stops

first of all...this is NOT a rebadged toyota. THey basically separated. Not the wheelbase, not the engine, not anything. Maybe a lever or two but all brands are like that.

why doesnt anybody say that merc is a chrysler? isnt it the same concept. I think the car looks great and whoever says that an american car can compete with foreign cars is stupid.

why do you think american car brands are going downhill?

Cadillacs are rebadged Chevys. I test drove a 2007 Lexus ES and then drove across the street and drove a 2006 Cadillac STS and it handled the same as a Chevy Cobalt. Lexus clearly leaves Chev--I mean Cadillac in the dust.

I like how the LS isn't as busy on the exterior like the Mercedes S-class is. The S-class has way too much crap on the outside that ruins it's beauty. The Lexus, while still technological, finds ways to hide the extra antennas, wires, bumps, etc. in ways that make it easier on the eyes. That second antenna on the trunk of the S-class was what ruined that car.

whoever said lexus isn't a rebadged toyota is clearly delusional ! the ES is a tarted up Camry, the RX is the same but with a Highlander (which starts life as a Camry) and their top of the line SUV, the LX470, is a Landcruiser! Now there isn't a toyota in the US that gets morphed into the bland LS460, but just look at it! it looks JUST LIKE CAMRY! save yourself $50k and get a Camry...it will ride and drive the same, then use the money you saved and get a REAL luxury car with what you saved, an E-Class, 5-Series, or A6!

nice car, but lexus has no interesting in leading class. its much more profitable to compete in class. they have competed since their inception, but as soon as they try to lead, they will have reliability issues like the current leaders do. thats not a bad thing. its conservative, but will never bring greatness.

DallasMR2, first of all whats wrong with driving a toyota. Second of all, if toyota makes good cars, then why cant things be based on good cars.

Lexus rips off the outer portions of a toyota and makes them into luxury cars. So whats wrong with having a wheelbase that nobody can see being the same as from a camry. WHo friggin cares as long as it looks good and feels good. People who have minds can separate a lexus from a toyota. You pay more for the luxury and thats enough to make it a strong competitor in markets

LexusKindaGuy12,

Obviously (per my username) there is nothing wrong with driving a Toyota...i have for the last 6.5 years. this WILL however will be my last, my MR2 Spyder has been NOTHING but problems. being a Honda guy, i expected similar reliability but was SORELY (and financially) mistaken. ...but i digress.

i'm not saying there is anything wrong with basing cars on other cars. i LOVE the Acura TL, which is based on an Accord...which is in itself sportier than a Camry. i was merely pointing out that someone said Lexus and Toyota are "basically seperated" and don't platform share. if you want a non descript luxury barge totally void of driving excitement and emotion, then by all means, you go get a lexus...you're there target customer. but if you want something actually enjoyable, fun to drive, and beautiful (by the enthusiest definition) you'll need to gravitate toward European luxury models.

and btw, the only market Lxus is acually a "strong competitor" is the NA market...you mentioned 'markets'...and i don't even agree with that statement.

only cadillac on chevy platform is escalade. lexus gs is not avalon. lexus sc isn't solara. lexus es is camry. camry and solara are fwd, sc and gs are rwd. original sc was based off supra. and i think gs was based off japan-only replacement for cressida.

racer1:

I said it drives better than an ES not a GS. The GS is sport driving designed and the ES is luxury driving designed. Next time, before you make an idiot of yourself, read a little closer. And I have driven a GS before and for your information, it was 30 times better than an STS.

As usual it is easier for fools to stick to wrong ideas than to accept correction.

1995e34 has told you very clearly why your statements were wrong and still you cannot accept defeat.
Either explain how/where you got your information or SHUT THE HELL UP.

racer1, i might ad that in the uk (where i live) lexus don't bother selling the rebadges.
we don't get any of those toyotas you mentioned (bar the land cruiser, called the land cruiser amazon here) and neither the es nor lx or gx are sold here, and like 1995e34 says, the camry and solara are fwd (whatever those cars are)
and i wouldn't know an avalon if it crashed into my house.

Racer1,

Cadillacs? OMG! I can't even believed I typed it out. That brand is not even worth comparing to carmakers like Lexus, BMW, MB or Audi. For me to even say that Cadillacs can compare to Lexus, is like someone pointing a gun to my head and made me say it. Please leave the crappy vehicles out of this post...and I think I just mentioned the entire No. America domestic vehicles.
