Edmunds "We Drive the 580 Horsepower M5 Killer"....Audi's RS6
The guys over at Edmunds got their hands on the new 580 horsepower, twin-turbo V10 Audi RS6 Avant.
The car was praised for its monsterous acceleration. This car has the ability to take the driver and hurl him back into the driver's seat faster than they can blink. With such a huge torque rating available over such a wide RPM range the RS6 is just a right foot press away from unleashing its fury.
The car is also a massive dynamic improvement over the previous RS6. Where the previous go-fast Audi failed to impress, this new RS6 delivers brilliantly. The handling is so much improved that the new RS6 is capable of lapping the famed Nurburgring in 8:09 according to Audi. That time is 20 seconds faster than the previous RS6.
The RS6 combines Audi's trademark daytime LED running lights, with the usualy RS design touches of a honeycomb front grill, deeper air vents, bulging wheel arches and two oval shaped exhaust pipes in the back.
The RS6 now has the monster acceleration to match, and likely defeat the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG to 60 mph and the handling is now much more balanced, sharper, and confidence inspiring.
Like Edmunds said, The competition for the BMW M5 touring and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG estate just got a whole lot tougher. Not only does this RS6 provide horsepower and torque that neither the BMW or Benz can match, which will likely give the RS6 the advantage in straight-line acceleration where the E63 AMG previously ruled.....
but this Audi is such an improvement in the dynamic department that it has the possibility of lapping the famed Nurburgring faster than BMW's M5 which has always been the dynamic leader of this segment.
It looks like the string of hits for Audi's RS division continues. First the RS4, then the R8 (not made by Quattro GmBH but a masterpiece nonetheless) and now the RS6.
On the horizon is Audi's TT-RS which will showcase Audi's new lightweight design philosophy to create the fastest TT ever along with an upcoming RS5 which will have a power increase over the RS4 and it will also be much lighter than its 4-door sibling.

Audi claims 8:09 for the Nurburgring. The BMW M5's official time is 8:05 done by SportAuto.
Look for the Audi to match or even defeat the mighty M5 on the best track in the world.
Audi's 40:60 rear biased quattro is really paying dividends as seen by the RS4, the R8 and now the RS6.

Wait for the RS6 sedan to be released. WOW.

Sport Auto did 8:13 with the M5 Sedan officialy. Check the Sport Auto site, it was the M3 coupe which did a 8:05.
THe M6 coupe did a 8:09 by SPort Auto.

Yeah, I want this, so bad. The Avant is so much cooler than the sedan, and so sexy from the rear.
I can't say I would be unhappy with the sedan, however. (-;

By the way, the sedan will also pack the same 580 horsepower twin-turbo V10 and come with aluminum fenders and an aluminum hood. The only difference is weight.
The RS6 Sedan will weigh 132 pounds LIGHTER than the RS6 Avant tested here. If this RS6 Avant can pull 4 seconds from 0-60 look for the Sedan to comfortably hit 3.6-3.7 seconds.

With an obese weight of 4300 lb and AWD system of last century he expect it to be as fast as NISSAN GT-R?

Yeah, because the Nissan GT-R is like sooo light.
The R8 is already been capable of clocking 0-60 in 4.0 seconds, this will be even faster in a straight line.

Congratulation to Audi for another outstanding achievement. I thought it would had a much faster time from 0-62 mph, but it got 4.6s. With 580hp under the hood, I expected more.
But still a Great achievement to Audi!

Uh, that's Audi's time. As usual, Audi underestimated. It will be something like 4 seconds flat, for 0-100km/h, in the wagon. For 0-60mph in the sedan, expect sub-4 sec times.

Audi - and indeed all the Germans - are very conservative when it comes to acceleration numbers. This is because they use real world conditions.
Some manufacturers quote 0-60 mph (or 0-100 km/h) times using the most favourable conditions possible i.e. driver only (and often some svelte gentleman who weighs less than 150 lbs), perhaps 1/4 fuel tank full and no luggage, along with ideal road surface grip and temperature conditions.
The Germans, however, are more realistic. Usually their acceleration times use both a driver and passenger (both of whom are often obviously lovers of beer and bratwurst), always a full fuel tank and sometimes some luggage.
Rest assured, if you take any German car away alone and are notr carrying any excess cargo, you will pretty much always beat the quoted numbers.

I think in the EU 0-62 times (0-100 km/h) are done with driver, passenger, 8-ish kilos of luggage and fuel tank 3/4 full.

Not once in the article did Edmunds compare the rs6 to its competitors nor did they label the wagon as a m5 killer so don't quote it as such or make it seem like Edmonds already made any comparisons. It also doesn't say how fast the car is under acceleration, so any numbers like "under 4 seconds" would be premature.

The Original Edmunds Article has no reference to the RS6 as an "M5 Killer" but autospies does, I guess it adds a pinch of dramatic effect.
You've got a NA V10 @ 500HP vs FI V10 @ 580HP.
4012lbs(BMW)8.02lb/HP vs 4332(AUDI 4DSD)7.47lb/HP.
Then again you have more torque on the Audi but will they use their DSG?
BMW will have at least the 7 speed SMG(and traditional manual)...maybe even their Dual Clutch system by next model year??
I will love to see the comparisons between the two.
The consumer will ultimately win the battle, competition is great. I would love to see M and AMG's answer to this monster.

Enough with the "killer" monicker!!!!!!
By "killing" another car you'd have to impact its sales so severely that they'd cease production of it.
The Audi would have to be so amazingly good, and so amazingly cheap (think $10,000) to make buyers no longer have any desire for an M5.
RS6 is cool. M5 is cool. But the constant "killer" crap just starts silly/pointless/repetitive debates.

I love it the BMW M5 is getting smacked on the ring by the Audi RS6 AVANT!!!!!
An Audi station wagon can lap the Nurburgring faster than the BMW M5 SEDAN.
BMW is in the LOSER's seat AGAIN!!!!!
For all of you that were wondering where that "KILLER" moniker came from.......It was CLEARLY stated on Edmunds Insideline homepage (insideline.com) two days ago when the article first appeared.
Clearly under the headline that says We Drive Audi's RS6 it stated
"We Drive the 580 horsepower M5 Killer"
Send an email to the people at Edmunds if you don't believe me.
Anyway, it looks like the BMW M5 will get smoked in the straights by the RS6, as will the E63 AMG but the RS6 is also going to smoke the M5 around the Nurburgring.
That is what huge torque, huge horsepower and Quattro AWD are all about.
GO AUDI!!!!!
If you don't believe me then ask 528i who posted the same article 2 days ago but for whatever reason, it was never posted.

Audi is working its RS magic yet again.
BMW is put straight back in second place again.
Just like the E46 M3 was handed the RS4's tailights the BMW M5 SEDAN will not even be faster than the Audi RS6 AVANT. The 132 pound lighter RS6 sedan will make that straight-line acceleration advantage even bigger.
The RS6 sedan will be able to lap the Nurburgring very very close to the 8 minute flat mark. Considering Audi quoted the RS6 Avant at 8:09 which is usually conservative, SportAuto should be able to get 8:05.
The RS6 Sedan is going to DESTROY the BMW M5 in comparison tests.
I can't wait....

Audi RS6 AVANT Nurburgring Lap Time: 8:09
BMW M5 SEDAN Nurburgring Lap Time: 8:13
= Audi RS6 Avant can lap the Ring faster than the BMW M5 Sedan
Audi RS6 SEDAN Nurburgring Lap Time: Surely better than 8:09
....due to 132 pound lighter weight with same exact engine and output ratings
= Audi RS6 SEDAN will SMASH the BMW M5 Sedan at the Ring.

So another snoozer from Audi made into something is not by the Audi FANBOI no 1 "GermanNut" who has the nerve to post a commentary based on things that were never said in the Edmunds article. Nowhere in the article is says that this car is FASTER than the M5 or the AMG Mercedes. Why?. Because is not. Nowhere is says that this car kills BMW M or the AMG Mercedes because is not. Hey Star, get your fact correct before you quote from the article. Your stated reference:
" The car was quick — darn quick — but NOT A GREAT DEAL OF FUN away from a wide, multilane highway."/
You took this out of context so as to make it look you are referencing the new RS6. This implied statement was referring to the old RS6 (though BS on Edmunds part) and not the new RS6. I suggesst you re-read the article or stop twisting the truth.
Edmunds.com goes to state regarding the new RS6 Avant:
"Though it feels more at home in a straight line, it also manages to devour twisting roads with an impressive turn of speed. The tires grip well beyond what is safely achievable on the road, and the suspension boasts the sort of hardware that allows you to not only control the ride quality in three distinct levels — Comfort, Dynamic and Sport — but also ensure body movements are always well in check as you throw the car into a corner.
The four-wheel-drive system has been reworked to provide a nominal 40 percent front/60 percent rear torque split. It ensures massive purchase, yet the car handles with neutral poise even at high cornering speeds. The steering is quick at 2.2 turns lock to lock and it has more on-center feel than the S6's steering thanks to a revised hydraulic pump. The brakes are beyond reproach, and they still feel strong even after being hammered lap after lap on a racetrack."
I think this says the RS6 Avant is quite fun other than just straight-line.
You anti-Audi people are a crack-up to the lengths you try to put Audi down to make your little precious BMW look good. That's pretty sad if you have to resort to that type of arguments.

Lying?? How so?
The Audi RS6 Avant is faster in a straight-line than the Audi R8.
The Audi R8 is faster in a straight-line than both the BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 AMG.
Therefore the Audi RS6 must be faster than the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG in a straight-line also.

Check the pipelin??? I don't have to because with 1.5 million sales worldwide for just the Audi brand (only the cars with the 4 rings on the them) they will surpass the BMW brand (just the cars with the blue and white propeller logo on them) by 20115.
Yes, BMW GROUP may sell 1.5 million units worldwide right now but that inludes the Mini and Rolls-Royce brands in addition to the BMW brand.
Audi is going to give BMW all it can handle and them some as it takes the top spot for global worldwide sales in 2015.
SIMPLE AS THAT.
What will drive this success will be Audi's excellent engineering, design, marketing, and new product development that will leave BMW struggling to release as many new models as Audi.
