Entry Level 2010 Jaguar XJ to have Hybrid Option? New Images.
The Big Cat is taking another radical leap forward – and in an amazing exclusive, Auto Express has the pictures to prove it!

Following hot on the heels of the XF, Jaguar’s S-Type replacement, the British firm is set to reveal an even more dramatic model in the shape of this new flagship, the XJ.

The newcomer has one aim – to beat the Audi A8, BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Class at their own game. And with gorgeous looks, a fabulous driving experience and Jaguar’s first-ever hybrid powerplant, the new XJ is set to propel the marque back to the top of the luxury saloon class.

Under the skin, the saloon will use an updated version of the current car’s aluminium chassis. The wheelbase will remain virtually identical, so improvements in space will come from mounting the rear seats lower – to give better headroom – as well as the use of sculpted front seatbacks, which boost legroom.

Beautiful concept. My fear as always is that by the time it reaches production, it would have been watered down. I just wish that this was the finished product.

It is difficult to tell what will appear on the actual production version much less the concept, but there are a few things I would like to address.

I do not believe that the belt-line (the line running along the doors under the windows) will be linear like this. Autocar's drawings show this beltline in 3/4 view. However, because it is from such an angle the drawing is less likely to be accurate in terms of what is on the side. For that there is a side-profile drawing and it shows a waved belt-line with a bulge fore and aft of the passenger compartment as you move along the length of the car.

To me the latter is far more Jaguar and significantly more prone to be beautiful. I don't like the exactly linear belt-line.

I do not like the kink in the rear window - it has become a fad and it won't age well. I think it should have the form of the XK window at the rear. The autocar images make it difficult to discern what exactly is going on with the rear window, but it appears to have this tapered effect (the door slashes across it however)

As far as this particular front end- I am not a fan- it is so bulky. Something which is emphasized by that odd curve under the grill. The grill is too erect.

The fog light treatment on this car is hideous and non-integrated.

Honestly if they wanted to make it more aggressive, they would push the hood down and bring the edges up. Everyone knows that that exact hood- the one that has been on Jaguars for 40 years- is supposed to look like the muzzle of a growling cat. The higher the edges the more aggressive the look- the more aggressive the cat.

As a point of fact, I would just like to say, "I told you so", regarding when we will see the next XJ.

It will not look like this. My sales manager saw an early iteration of the car early this year and this is way off. Auto express has a history of taking ideas and running with them. They have a very imaginative photoshop team.
