Europeans to get an Infiniti EX37, we’re a little jealous
The Infiniti EX37 will also join the G37 sedan and the G37 coupe when Infiniti takes on its German rivals in Europe later this year. Just like the G37 sedan, the Infiniti EX37 will be powered by the detuned 3.7 liter V6 engine producing 305 horsepower. That’s about 8 more horsepower than the EX35, along with the 3.7 that should make this EX a little more exciting than its U.S. brother.

And yes Nissan, we want a 330 horsepower Infiniti EX37 just like we want a 300 horsepower Infiniti G37 sedan. Get to work - we’re waiting...

Not at all, the EX35 is a brilliant entry, and I'd wager that Infiniti will augment it with a more powerful sibling soon enough...

Since the EX37 will very likely be a major flop, I don't see how a more powerful entry will be needed.

What is required is an efficient diesel engine. Nissan has Renault, which makes superb diesels. They could easily outsource one.

What makes you think it will be a major flop? 1 month of sales makes it hard to predict anything. Look at the tundra's first month. It then went on to miss its sales target by 1 or 2 thousand. Everybody said it was a flop after month one. i just don't understand

We are talking about Europe here, not North America. European consumers generally favor fuel efficient cars, even when it comes to luxury vehicles. A North American market approach on Infiniti's behalf is bound to fail.

The EX37 might do well in places like Russia, where fuel is cheaper, but elsewhere in Europe it most likely won't.

I work for Mercedes-Benz and here's the current market share of the W164 M-Klasse (December 2007):

Diesel (ML280 CDI / ML320 CDI / ML420 CDI): 90%

Gasoline (ML350 / ML500 / ML63 AMG): 10%

I don't need to mention that the ML420 CDI, ML500 and ML63 AMG are virtually low volume models in Europe. The most popular M-Klasse by far is the ML320 CDI.

I looked at an ML320 CDI yesterday, and have to say, it's a rather nice vehicle. It seemed to be $3k cheaper than it's petrol counterpart, with the same options equipped. And then I saw someone driving one.

It looks much better parked, than in motion. But, that same observation can be made about a lot of vehicles.

I totally demonize all auto makers who give Europe better cars that us North Americans. The U.S in particular is a huge market so we should all boycott such manufacturers until they wise up.

Hmm... Because the market for this will be huge... NOT!

The Murano didn't do very well here, why should this do any different?! I like the design, but wouldn't own one and I'm pretty sure the majority of the european population won't like the design!

why would they tune down the 330hp 3.7L and stick it into the sedan? It produces less torque...why not just stick with the 3.5L?

Should have a diesel for Europe, not a big V6 in a little car.

Precisely.

The German brands have little to fear from an Infiniti EX37, no matter how powerful it is. Europeans tend to be realistic, even when shopping for a luxury car, and nobody needs a 330-horsepower SUV with extremely poor fuel economy.

I always wonder why the Japanese cannot read the European market correctly. Infiniti is doing the same errors that Lexus is doing. They're not offering the European consumer what they want.

Explain the V8 and V12 German luxury cars then please.

You say Europeans are "realistic", but most AMG Benz cars are anything but.

Your arrogance is getting old.

Why can't we let people like what they like without labeling them as being "wrong"?

answer - the difference is the price point. The cars you mentioned are very expensive and have different demographics. It's European competitor is the the X3 and Soon Q5 and GLK. all available with diesel engines. The majority of X3 in Europe are sold with the diesel engine.

Answer,

How many V8, V12 or AMG cars does Mercedes sell in Europe?

Have you ever been to Europe? A V8 or V12 Mercedes is a rare sight. And furthermore, a V8 and V12 product is created because there is a demand for it, but that doesn't mean it will sell like hotcakes in Europe.

Most Europeans are indeed "realistic" and would not purchase an S600 etc. for the sole reason that an S320 CDI does the same thing, except more efficiently.

"Explain the V8 and V12 German luxury cars then please."

We don't have that many V8 and V12s here... Both the E-class and the S-class sell more diesel models in europe than gasoline models! The big engines are mainly made for the US market!

It is true, they should shove a diesel in it!

I'm really growing tired of this Euro-only attitude around here of late.

So nobody can build a car as powerful as the Merc and BMW 12's, but Europeans are not foolish enough to actually buy them?

Come on!

You guys are always playing both sides of the coin when it comes to why the Germans are always "better".

Germany makes great cars, but saying that doesn't mean the Japanese don't as well.

Stop the maddness!!!!!

Answer,

You don't seem to get it.

V8 and V12 cars are not mass sellers in Europe, especially the latter. Most Europeans drive around in 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder cars, fact.

Where did someone say that German cars are better than Japanese cars in the posts here? The way I see it you're either extremely learning deficient or trying to start a flame war.

Read my previous posts from other topics. All of them. Going back several years mind you (to 2003 I believe). You'll see I am not a flame war starter in the slightest.

I just can't stand the double standard of all these discussions lately.

"Nobody needs a 330hp SUV with poor fuel economy."

Well what about the AMG ML, AMG G, BMW's X5, Porsche Cayenne, supercharged Range Rovers etc.

"Oh, well Europeans are too smart to buy those."

OK. See what I'm getting at here? Debates are fine, but let's keep them grounded in some logic.

You really don't get it. I am not slamming Infiniti or the Japanese for building performance cars/trucks, I am criticizing their marketing mentality / strategy for Europe.

My point is that Infiniti seems to be moving into Europe with an arsenal of overpowered and fuel inefficient cars. The European consumer could care less if the EX37 has 330-horsepower and does 0-60 in whatever time. The Euro consumer is far more interested in say a BMW X5 3.0d or a Mercedes ML320 CDI that might not be as fast, but are way more efficient in terms of fuel. That's my point. If Infiniti wants to be competitive in Europe they need to offer an "EX37d".

And why are you comparing the EX37 to say a Porsche Cayenne or Mercedes ML63 AMG? They don't compete. Furthermore cars like the Porsche Cayenne or ML63 AMG are not even considered low volume sellers in Europe as their sales numbers aren't anything impressive.

The big engined cars the Europeans produce are primarily for North America and the Middle East. Everywhere else in the world those cars with big engines are poor sellers. Fact.

ErichHartmann, European manufacturers have a lot to fear from the EX because it appears to have a very luxurious interior at a lower price. I'm attending a car show tomorrow where I hope to see one in real life for the first time.

I think Infiniti is try to enter the market and be established as top luxury and powerful. Then bring in more fuel efficient cars. I think it is a smart move. Like all business decisions it has risks of failure. However, I don't think they are aiming to sell a lot of cars. They want to try to set a brand image first.

My 2 cents...

I think our European members are saying that they just can't enter the market with powerful and INEFFICIENT engines and then hope that they'll find consumer acceptance. It doesn't work that way over there.

Surely a class leader. In everything like design, power, Interior, features...etc. Great work Infiniti.

It will be a huge hit (don't know about Europe).

Infiniti interiors are nothing special if you ask me. I'm a Lexus fan and I think Lexus makes the best interiors in the luxury segment. Infiniti is not even close.

It won't be a hit here. The average European luxury consumer isn't interested in sheer power but efficiency.

The Lexus RX350 doesn't sell well at all in Europe, despite having good features. What's keeping it back? Brand image, lack of efficient engines (RX400h gets poor fuel economy in European mix) and possibly the design as well, which I recall has been criticized in a few magazines for lacking elegance.
