Evo writes on a sinister black Audi R8
With the introduction of the Audi R8 just a few weeks back, the car is already generating a huge amount of talk and speculation throughout the auto industry.

The R8's prime target was the Porsche 911. That would be fitting as both are mid-engined sports cars.

Evo magazine brings us a nice introduction to the Audi R8 and compares it to the 997 Porsche 911 C4S. The C4S is claimed to go 0-62 mph in 4.8 seconds, meanwhile the R8 is claimed to accomplish same task in 4.6 seconds.

It is worth mentioning that the R8 was NOT driven and therefore all performance numbers are speculatory and can not be confirmed at this time.

Either way, still a great write-up of a truly mean looking Audi R8.

The 911 would be a rear engine sports car, not a mid-engine. The mid-engine would of course belong to it's cousins the Boxster and Cayman (sp?)

Damn, that black R8 is beautiful!

It's a perfect match with my 2004 Gibson Les Paul R8 ;)

True. The 911 is rear-engined. I can't believe audiworld got that wrong- they love Porsche, too!

But sounds cool.

And yes, the R8 is unbelievably good-looking.

Audi does it again. They set a benchmark with the original TT and they'll do it again with the R8

I can't wait for all the anti-Audi people on this site such as Larry and AmazingBimmer to say how this car will be slow, and will handle much worse than the C4S.

Well the handling problem will pretty much be solved with the mid-engine design and rear-biased Quattro AWD. Also with the weight being only 3,200 pounds, this car is sure to be nimble and provide rapid acceleration.

It's great. You get a stunning sports tourer with an extremely exotic design at a great price.

Wow, that is an amazing cover. It says "Collecot's Edition" They are right. I think the car was driven but not acutally tested. But as you can see the R8 will most likely be quicker.

In Germany ALL Audi R8s for 2007 sold out in one day. It looks like UK is the same. US will be too.

GermanNut, look, it's an anti-Audi idiot!

Exactly what you thought would happen.

Larry, you SO want the R8, just like everyone else...

If you didn't like it, you wouldn't be posting here.

Larry- if you want a lambo then great because it is just a (rebaged Audi) The Audi is a very diffrent car/ ASF, FST. The R8 and Lambo share about 5% of the same components, The R8 and the A8 share 12% of the same components.

The R8 is the best Audi every built. It combines the supercar looks with a (almost) luxury interior. But as some1 mentioned in another topic, it challenges its brothers from porsche and lambo.

I hate the X3.

Anyone who owns one is automatically an idiot.

3 Series wagon does everything better.

Dont b harsh, i h8 the X3 too, but i saw 1 the other day with M sport package and i was impressed. But the normal version in an imbarasment for BMW . . if they just built a smaller version of the X5 , every1 wouldve bought it.

That's what it was designed to do, but failed miserably.

And I wasn't harsh- anyone who owns one is an idiot.

Like I said, 3 Series wagon makes a ton more sense.
