Exclusive SpyShots of The next Acura TL- Here's our best GS of what it will look like
The next Acura TL is supposed to launch in 2008 as a 2009 model but our spy photographers have caught it early, testing in Germany.

These latest photos, taken near the famous Nürburgring race track in Germany, capture this well-disguised Acura sedan.

Even though it's camoed, we can see a lot of Lexus GS influence in the c-pillar profile and a little hint of Infiniti M-Series in the front headlight area...do you?

This car will continue the tradition of the TL in a good fashion. Whats wrong with taking cues from the GS or the M, both in my opinion very stylish cars. As long as the Acura driving characteristics are still apparent in the vehicle (tight steering, great power, great build quality) we should sell these in droves. Acura needs to step up in order to stay even or ahead of the competition. Already confirmed from Acura sources 300+hp and SH-AWD. Now we will never sell an 09 RL til it's redesign comes. Acura is stepping in the right direction. 2 great new SUVs with 3 completly redesigned and hopefully class leading sedans coming in the next 8-12 months, along with a halo luxury sedan to compete with 7 series and LS. Good times are coming from Acura.

Sad to say, probably a unimportant car, coming from a increasingly irrelevant auto brand.

That over-all shape looks rather like a (current) Nissan Maxima, which to say... rather bulky/ungainly.

And it also appears that that Zena - Warrior Princess Chastity Belt Grille from the MD-X found its way on to this as well.

Oh well... At least the current one was handsome.

The RL might not be the best flagship sedan for a luxury brand, but it is still a very nice car.

At the RL price point it is "worse in class". under whelming to drive and small on the inside. at $50K there are soooo many better choices. The TL offers a lot of value the RL does not.

I guess you have yet to drive one.

Actually the Rl Drives pretty good. It drives better than an E350 and they were priced similarly. I think it's because the RL looks too much like an accord. Although at certain angles, the RL looks pretty good.

"small inside" relative to what. It's the roomiest of the bunch in it's class. Second row leg room is a tad less then the GS but you have more shoulder room and the seats are the most comfortable of the group IMO

theoptimisticpessimisttheoptimisticpessimist - 9/25/2007 7:10:33 PM

Yes I have driven it, and far more than just around the block. The suspension tuning is awful, the ride is fragile and the handling is mediocre. throw it into a corner and it gets upset you can power out of it, the SH-AWD helps a bit but you got to keep the power on. Drive one modestly hard and you can tell the engineers did not spend much time on the test track.

It's smaller inside than an Accord.

Few more comments,

The the E350 in a corner it waddles and the catches, try it with the RL it just whimpers, you really can feel how nose heavy it is.

Other than the brochures stats the GS is one of the smallest back seats in the class; at six feet two inches and 215 pounds I don't fit comfortably.

"Second row leg room is a tad less then the GS..."

The GS has a very cramped rear seat. This is not something Acura should be proud of.

I just don't like the RL. What's the point of getting it? It's the worst-looking car in the class, the interior is bland, the performance is average at best and it doesn't offer any choice in terms of the drivetrain. The only vehicle in this class I'd buy it over is the Jaguar S-Type-- but that's about to be replaced by the XF anyway.

Got I hope it doesn't get that grille treatment from the MDX. I've had two TL's that I loved in the past and am considering the TL for my car next year but so far I have to say I'm leaning towards the IS350 or 335. The TL looks to be getting too big for my taste.

I think Acura has stated somewhere that all their vehicles going forward will have SH-AWD. The car in the picture does have a long front overhang, but so does the Acura RL. I actually own a 2006 Acura TL. I drove my dad's Mercedes E350 and he asked me if I'd consider buying one too, I said It's really good looking and very luxurious but the Acura TL drives really sporty. I felt good to mash on the pedal. It felt quick. The E350 felt stable and solid but heavy and slow. Maybe it's just the two cars are aimed at different people lol. Anyways I love the current TL. I hope that camoflage is hiding the real beauty of this new version. The size of the wheel wells concern me a bit. Can anyone guess the size of those tires? They look like 17 inchers on a car made for 19 inch rims.

yep, I don't own a TL but I've driven them many times. Great car except the FWD torque steer BS. The SHAWD will solve that even if it adds a few pounds to the car. The rumors are well established that Acura's will be SHAWD going forward. Whether that system is FWD biased or RWD biased is an unknown at this time. I'd bet FWD like the RL. The system sends power about 50/50 when accelerating, mostly to the back outside wheel when turning, and cruises mostly with the front wheels

Not to be odd, but on this one I definitely do have a guy on the inside. The early released info at TOV is spot on. 300 plus horse, SH-AWD, and a huge interior / tech upgrade are coming. Front end looks good. Rear doesn't work for him. They're trying to coax more power now since it's a bit sluggish relative to the G, BMW, IS, etc. On paper though, it should compete well...execution, well, I hope it does well. Then we win as consumers, truth be told, since everyone else will up the ante from there.

I don't know. Acura just needs help. They need a styling direction (love what they've done with the MDX- hated it at first but I hope the rest of their line looks like it), attractively-designed interiors rather than just well-built ones, and SH-AWD available or standard on all models, like Audi with quattro. Acura could truly be the Japanese Audi if they tried hard enough. Infiniti and Lexus have found their places as mirrors of BMW and Mercedes-Benz- but now we're just waiting for the last one.
