Sorry, but it just is inferior in exterior and interior design to the MB GL550. And I just dont' understand Toyota's decision to continually go with the flip-to-the-side 3rd row seats. Not only it is not as practical as stowaway ones, but they're aesthetically unpleasing.

And that center stack is just not elegant in the least.

the reason why lexus and toyota do not change the third row seats is becasue USA is only 10 percent of their LX/Laand Rover world sells. in order to do "fancy" stowaway seats they would loose ground clearence room which is the reason why the land criser (lx) is so desired in russia, middle east and oter places where 4 wheel drive is a true need not only a "cool thing to have".ike them or not Toyota/Lexus are in for the buck, they are a business not a non profit and that is the reason why.

Wanna know my sources? believe me they are waaaaaay from within the companies hahaha that sounded so freaking "special agent" like (kidding)

the "king?"
please explain why.

vs. range rover. is it faster? better off road? better looking? does it sell more volume? answers to all: no.

and fyi: land rover has been the leader in off road vehicles since WWII.

enthusiast, you can't forget that the Range Rover is also the most luxurious SUV on the road. That interior is lavish.

The LX570 is an insult to the real king of SUVs, the Range Rover.

The GL and ML (if equipped properly) are very good offroad. Almost as good as a Porsche Cayenne or Touareg.

But the real king is still the G.

I agree, if you want a really-real off road SUV you get a Landy or a G-wagon... there's really no other substitute in that category. Cayenne, Land Cruiser, GL are all a second tier who's primary purpose is moving people across the urban jungle even if they are capable of the real thing.

ok, not much to talk about.

typical well-done lexus interior (except for disastrous third row which should fold flat like its competitors). but very boring exterior which will blend in with generic SUVs that cost $25k less.

No fold flat third-row because body on frame structure with a live-solid rear axis, thus no room to do so.

The next Sequoia will have rear independent suspensions thus have fold-flat third row.

The most manly looking SUVs, LX/LC, they will not play with those little kids like GL, X5 etc.

The new LX is an extremely handsome looking SUV. The X5 also is, but the new 2008 LX has it beat easy in the looks department, and that also goes for the Q7 and Land Rovers.

That's an opinion. I find the Q7, X5, GL and Range Rover all much better-looking than this car. I prefer the looks of the last-gen LX, to be honest. This one looks too derivative.

Well well, nice Land cruiser. I like the land cruiser series, rugged, super capable off roaders. why Lexus can not come up with something totally different, even base loosely on the same platform, just baffles me. But I guess, as long as the american customers are going to pay the extra money for such an obsolete SUV, then Lexus will keep making a ton of $$$. I'd like to see if this one passes TUV in Germany, as as far as I know, box on frame like the GX and the LX were not passing the battery of test. Oh well!!! I don't like it, I'd rather get a Land cruiser.

Are you kidding me, the X3? You mean the POS car that is incapable of nothingness for nothingness, for people who can't afford a X5, non ergonomical to the sense of obsolete of nonsense. The new LX570 is eons beyond the X3. If you don't like the design then just say so, I mean, afterall, its subjective. Once again, an airhead pro German who post no credible threads to this oh-so informative website. I wish I can just gather all the educated car people without bias and see all the vehicles equally for what they are.

The LX/LC are legendary especially the LC ,it has no equal the only one that comes close is the Land Rover/Range Rover but they've had reliability issues for as long as I have known them so you would not want to cross mountains and deserts in something that will leave you stranded, if you do not believe me then come to Africa and the Mid east you will then see what I mean.

This is not pavement poser car, it is a rough robust 4wheel drive that functions exellent toward its intended design, of course a lot of posters here would not know what I am talking about they'll start comparing this to the X5,Cayenne,Q7 just for the sake of argument even if there is none. living in places like Europe and urban areas puts you @ a big disadvantage to see that this is a go anywhere car, not a fashion show!

Lexus grows their own trees so they can determine quality. Not like the Germans that cut down rainforests and exotic plants and damage the environment to get their wood.

Yeah the interior is nice (Nicer than the GL's), however I see Lexus just can't seem to loose the cheap looking digital microwave clock found in all of their cars.

I personally think Jaguar, Infiniti (Yes you heard me) & Mercedes have the nicest wood in the business with the exception of Bentley & Rolls Royce, but most of us aren't in store for vehicles of such prestige & price.

German fanboys take a look at this truck right now! Because that is all you will ever see of it especially since the performance is mind blowing. Forget the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and Benz ML63 AMG. The LX570 has less power but will be faster and it also handles better while offering a superb interior and comfort levels. Lexus for life baby!

What seperates the Lexus from the rest of the pack is not only the luxury, but the reliability factor. As KeyerSoze points out, you want to cross Africa in a Land Rover?

here we go again with reliability. shall we refer to JD powers again?

lexus/buick = 1.45 problems per car over three years
land rover = 3.98 problems per car over three years

that extra 0.8 problem per year is such a big deal?

KING of being dead last on the realiability ratings. Back to reality although this looks exactly like a Land Cruiser, I do like the front end (LS) series. Quality also will be top notch, but I still think Lexus has one too many SUV'S either this or the GX should go.

GX should go; Land Cruiser platform is better than 4Runner platform. I've always seen the GX470 as a useless SUV. Especially when they're going to come out with a three-row RX in a year or two. I haven't seen any next-gen GX camo cars running around, so maybe they're dumping it.

The GX is not based on a 4runner platform but on a landcruiser platform. The 4runner in the US also uses that platform.

This is our landcruiser, notice anything similar?

Your "Land Cruiser" is identical to our GX470, which is BASED ON THE 4RUNNER. The REAL Land Cruiser, which is sold as the Land Cruiser in the US, is sold as the Land Cruiser Amazon in Europe. Any way you slice it, the GX is still based on the 4Runner. The 4Runner and your Land Cruiser are not based on the real Land Cruiser platform.

TOYOTA/LEXUS IS RELIABLE,You can check out the complete rankings in the gallery below and read:

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/06/ford-dominates-j-d-power-and-associates-2007-initial-quality-st/

The Initial Quality Study serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership and captures problems experienced by owners in two distinct categories-quality of design and quality of production (defects and malfunctions).
The study finds that vehicle redesigns and product launches create quality challenges for manufacturers as they continue to develop and introduce new and advanced automotive technologies. On average, a vehicle redesign increases problem counts by 10 problems per 100 (PP100) vehicles.

YOU CAN SEE LAND ROVER HAS 170 PROBLEMS PER 100 VEHICLES.
The most improved nameplates in the study are Land Rover (increasing in initial quality by 34 PP100), Saab (improving by 30 PP100) and Mercedes-Benz (increasing by 28 PP100).

Why would a Luxury SUV have such an ugly dashboard? Usually such over-the-top designs are reserved for cheaper cars which need to help disguise the cheaper materials.

On a luxury SUV the materials should help speak for themselves. The over-styled centre console looks tacky.

Great video. Looks like a winner. It addresses all the deficiencies of the current gen-more luxurious (Lexus-like) exterior, 3rd row, more luxury touches, more powerful engine. It makes Lexus much more competitive in this segment. MBZ will still sell plenty of those stretched MLs, and people who love the interior of a Range Rover's service bay will still buy them. But anyone who wants decades of legendary off-road experience wrapped up in a luxurious, powerful package would be hard pressed to find a better choice than this new LX.

Nice redesign.

The naysayers are really proving there ignorance today. Range Rover far superior to the LX? Hardly, both are extremely kick-ass vehicles and are some of the few SUVs that can still go off road.

But, out of all the Lexus vehicles the LX is most deserving of a hybrid powertrain.

The only reason to buy an LX over the RR is the third row. The Range Rover is still quite easily the most luxurious, best-looking SUV on the road.
