FIA President Says VW, Ford Unlikely To Enter Formula One
Volkswagen and Ford will play a part in shaping new Formula One technical regulations but neither manufacturer is likely to enter the sport, according to FIA President Max Mosley.

"I don't think there is any suggestion that either of those companies will come into Formula One," the International Automobile Federation head told reporters at the Monaco Grand Prix.

"But from our point of view, if we can involve two or even more (uncommitted) major manufacturers at board level in our discussions on possible future regulations, their input will be very helpful because they are disinterested about the technologies we should incorporate.

Don't be sad that Toyota fails at F1. 500 million X 6 years = 3 billion dollars burned up with zero results.

Some times the best insight is from the outside.

Both VW and Ford are there at the request FIA. Both also have an excellent reputation for bringing advancements on the track to the street unlike the others in attendance.

Something called relevancy.

Haha you say SH!T but say *bleep* the next line under. As if it would have mattered anyways.

Anyways once you grow up you will learn that the world is not always about showing off. It's about finance. Money is what makes the world go around and if a company finds no need to get involved in a motorsport then so be it. It doesn't mean they are less of a great car manufacturer it just means they have other things to concentrate on. Remember that no single car company is the best at everything.

LexuasAdmirer - FIA obviously think's it's important to ask them - so why do you waste your breath? They obviously have a reason for asking them to meet. That's what makes people not like Lexus fans. Both Audi and Ford have other racing programs to concentrate on - so obviously it's not because they are afraid of racing. Btw - Audi does sell more cars than that "18 year old company" you refer to. It's a big world out there. Lexus sells 250K in the US (it's only real market) and Audi sells 900K worldwide. Though if you count all of the Toyotas sold that are actually Lexus cars I'm sure the gap would probably be half that. Case in point - my family comes from Jamaica and I just visited there. The Lexus RX350 is called the Toyota Harrier down there. The LX is basically a special edition Land Cruiser - which is called the Toyota Prado. Don't get me started with this argument. Do yourself a favor and keep your arrogance and ignorance to yourself.

Lexus has to be brought into every topic to appease German fans' egos. They're self-conscious about people pointing out the shortcomings of their favorite products, so they automatically go on the offensive with the most ridiculous arguments they can find, all to make themselves feel better about the propeller on their hoods and steering wheels.

Ford and VW not entering F1 shouldn't be a surprise or disappointment to anyone...

Dre 3000 - Let me be more specific. I don't like ignorant fanatics that make statements based on their own close minded opinion and pass them off for facts. That's how all wars get started in life. You ask how Lexus got into this? Ask Mr. Admirer. Normally I don't get into the flame wars - but today was hot - and I can't stand to hear foolishness. This is becoming a site for FANBOYS - not car enthusiasts!!

LexusAdmirer wrote:"Agent63, what does Audi or Ford need to concentrate on if they do not want to be involved with F1? Like trying not to go bankrupt in the case of Ford? Or trying to just get average reliability or sell more vehicles than an eighteen year old car company with little prestige in the case of Audi? Pathetic. You're pathetic."

You say I'm pathetic but ever looked at yourself in the mirror when you wake up? I think Audi has prestige in a very subtle way. It's interiors are amongst the best in terms of design and fine finishing. Audi is European luxury. Lexus is Japanese luxury there is a difference in design concepts and/or feel.

What Lexus do you own to even know what prestige? I own a Lexus and it's very luxurious but it lacks the European prestgie I LOOK FOR (as in ME personally). The A8 is very luxurious, very conservative, and very thoughtfully put together.

As for Ford I don't follow up on the happenings on their side therefore I wouldn't be able to speak for them.

Lastly, VW and Ford not participating in F1 has nothing to do with Audi's prestigiousness.

Don't waste your time don't even write back. Go spend your time in the real world.

Are you kidding, LexusAdmirer? Audi has incredible racing experience- maybe not F1, but in their history, they have swept an amazing amount of the races they participate in. What makes you think F1 would be any different?

LexusAdmirer -
1) the asked them to join a discussion about topics concerning implement new technology in F1 - it has nothing to do with their particpation in the races. Did you read the article????

2)Again - reading comprehension - I never said Audi sells more than than Lexus in the U.S. - I said worldwide. Lexus was made for the U.S. market and it should do well. I didn't take anything away from it - I'm just trying to get you to understand that it is a big world outside of America.

3)You just made my point - and for the record - the whole reason for Lexus coming into existence was because they didn't think Americans would want to pay that much for a Toyota. Other people in other countries always did - so there was no need to introduce the Lexus name. My overseas relatives have no problem saying that they own a Toyota Prado - it is considered luxury. You want to talk about research - go look that up - you don't even know the history of who you admire.

For Will - the point is that most of the Lexus fans on here make ignorant statments. I said it and I meant it. I respect Toyota a lot - but the fanatics on here make ridiculous arguments. I make statements based on FACTS. If you want to de-boost me - do it because my facts are wrong - not because you don't like truth.

LexusAdmirer - I see your head is "too tough" to understand anything other than your own viewpoint. You keep repeating the same thing I'm saying and then telling me I'm wrong. This will be my last response to you on this.

1)The whole point of FIA inviting them is because they respect them as manufacturers and they want input because their goal is to make F1 more relevant. It is close-minded views like yourself why we have so much trouble with diplomacy. Your analogy of a hairdresser is rediculous. First of all Ford and Audi make cars for THE STREET which makes them relevant in this context - not to mention both of them have been racing since before you and I were born. Finally to say that only a politician knows about how to govern - that is ridiculous. I live in NY and Michael Bloomberg - who never ran for office in his life - is the most efficient mayor (and politician for that matter) that I've ever seen.

2)I won't bother - you proved the point I was making - Lexus is not global. Nothing more to say.

3)I won't bother with this either. You made my point and don't even know it. Toyota made high-end cars for years - they just decided to call them Lexus in America. Now they decide they want to make Lexus a global brand.

Again - it all boils down to reading comprehension. Stop being so stuck in your own mind-set that you can't see the whole picture. That said - I'm not wasting my time responding to you after this.

This is off topic from the article but - this is for those who actually value facts. Toyota did a great job in managing their brand itendity. This doesn't change what I said. Toyota wanted to and did make luxury cars (Toyota Cressida) - but they decided they needed a new marketing strategy to sell the cars in America. To be fair - if you read the article you will note that in 2005 Lexus was given their own team - similar to Acura:

In 1983, Toyota Chairman Eiji Toyoda summoned a secret meeting of company executives, to whom he posed the question, “Can we create a luxury vehicle to challenge the world's best?” This question prompted Toyota to embark on a top-secret project, codenamed F1 (“Flagship” and “No. 1 vehicle”).[3] The F1 project, which eventually became known as the Lexus LS 400, aimed to develop a luxury car that would expand Toyota’s product line, giving it a foothold in the premium segment and offering both longtime and new customers an upmarket product.[4] The F1 project was inspired by the success of the Toyota Supra sports car and the luxury Toyota Cressida models. Both the Supra and Cressida were rear-wheel drive cars with a powerful 7M-GE/7M-GTE engine. The successful launch of the Acura marque by Honda three years prior also influenced Toyota to advance its plans for a luxury division. Around this same time, Nissan would unveil plans to create its own luxury division, Infiniti, while Mazda and Mitsubishi considered developing luxury flagships.

Toyota researchers visited the U.S. in May 1985 to conduct focus groups and market research on luxury consumers.[5] That summer, several F1 designers rented a home in Laguna Beach, California to observe the lifestyles and tastes of American upper-class consumers. Toyota’s market research concluded that a separate brand and sales channel was needed to present its new luxury flagship, and plans were made to develop a new network of dealerships in the U.S and in other markets.

Audi sold about 93,000 cars in the US last year. Nice typo.

"You keep bringing up relevancy. I'm going to ask you the same question I asked Agent009: what current mass produced Ford/Audi has F1 derived technology???"

Obviously, they AREN'T IN F1 YET. But do you know how many technologies Audi has developed for its road cars through other races? Try quattro. FSI. DSG.

"Running a country is much harder than running some city."

I may offer one suggestion here: New York is much more than "some city." Mull that over. And honestly, I wouldn't call our President a good politician. Then again, that sounds like an oxymoron.

What are the points of your #2 and #3? You're proving carlover's argument, again. You just basically said exactly what he said.
