it tops 997 turbos lap of 7:44 by about 6 seconds. Wow now that is quite an amazing achievement. It would have been even better if they were able to record on tape one of those 7:35 lap times that many speculate nissan gtr has achieved.

A 997 Turbo with manual gearbox and PCCB does 7:40.

Could you explain what you mean about the distance discrepancy.

So the camo/concept car did it in basically 7.39 I somehow doubt that this is the same car you or me can buy. Camo/concept cars are rarely the same thing as you buy from the lot.

i dont think they'd put proof of a concept vehicle achieving the time if it wasnt able to be done in the actual production vehicle.

NISSAN GTR...new king fo the road?

Like I had said in an earlier post, 7.38.54 is hardly 7.38 flat and DEFINATELY not 7.35 The back pedaling of hype surrounding this car is just so incredibly irritating! I dont really care if it beats the Z06 or the 997T, the simple fact that it's being consistently advertised as something more than it is just bothers the heck out of me! And with this consistency, I dont think it's so out of touch to call out the fact this is a concept/camo vehicle in the video.

Call me a "fan boy" if you'd like but I'd challenge you to find one post of mine that shows me to be so, though opinions I may have. Further, I challenge you to describe what part of my post indicates in anyway that I am a fanboy.

What I am stating is the regression of hype that has surrounded this car.

As fast as a Carrera GT to
500+ hp to
7.35 lap time to
475 hp to
7.35 lap time to
7.38 lap time to
7.38.54 lap time in a concept car.

There is absolutely no doubt that this is a very very fast car and certainly an achievement for Nissan to have produced it. I look forward to reading competitive reviews like I did when the R8 came to challenge the 911. Should it beat it's competition, I will handily clap as job well done. However, until then, the regression continues and posters such as yourself call me a fanboy for questioning this regression. I think it's quite telling of the people who stand by these claims as proof.

i dont think this vehicle needs any more explanation...

in other threads many doubted the times the GTR was capable of...i'm awaiting the rebuttals!!!

truly an amazing piece of work. now for the upcoming NSX and LF-A -- they better step their game up to be on par with this beast.

does that have anything to do with the production vehicle???

le mans consist of tuned motors...having to be serviced after every run.

the GTR is a production vehicle that will be ran with RELIABILITY...

two different aspects...

The Nissan GTR with a price tag you can't beat and extraodinary performance as well . If definitely stealing all the attention away from the Audi R8.

I just can't wait to see the stat for the Nissan GTR upper model with rumor of having 550hp. But I can assure it stat will definitely blow your mind away.

Again congratulation to Nissan and it engineering team, great job Nissan.

Lexus
ps. let hope the Lexus LF-A and Honda NSX can match this stat.

So all things considered it's about 7:39-7:40. A very very good time but not quite the GT2.

I agree somewhat with Threepoint. It started out at 7:32, then 7:35, then 7:38 and now its 7:38.54. An incredible achievement, but we still don't have an independent test and we don't even know what model of the GTR is being driven. Despite the debate, its very very fast and a huge departure in its design I think for the good.

Nice run by GTR. Im still curious though, concept version is it a strip version of the GTR? you can see the interior trim etc. but stuff like heating and a/c can affect weight of the car. Still a fantastic run by Nissan. Love the presence of the GTR, make the exotics work even harder to improve there stuff.
With the Porsche fanatics and GTR fanatics going at it. My question is if you were given a choice between the two cars to drive for free for a year. What would the choice be?

If I could only rely on my current experience w/ cars, i.e. w/o having the benefit of test driving both cars, I would pick the Porsche.

However, given a chance to test both cars thoroughly, that answer could change.

I would pick the Porsche, too, because of its combination of luxury and supercar performance (Turbo). The GT2 is sweet, too, but I'd take a GT-R over a GT3.

The one thing I can say about the GTR driving around the Nurbrugring, and that is it's the fugliest car to ever drive around the Nurbrugring.

theres only one thing more painful than having to wait to buy this machine and that's reading people bitching about 0.54 seconds from a 13 mile lap. last time i checked 7.38.54 is less than 7.40. i mean, am i missing something here? why would they show the video if it wasnt the same car they are selling? why not just go one further and say, "well how do you know that was even a nissan, maybe the video is of another car completely."

not quite the gt2? nissan bought a 997 turbo to test against, not a gt2. why dont we just say, "yah 7.38 is an ok time. the zonda f is still faster."

and people are claiming up and down the street that the R8 is the best everyday supercar. well i for one am not wearing a veil over my face.

The R8 IS the best everyday supercar... it's so comfortable and easy to use. The GT-R is the best bang for the buck. There's a big difference.

Let me get this straight, that's 7.38 with camo and with the track wet. Remove the camo and ofcouse this will reduce drag, and with better driving conditions and the GTR should hit the 7.35 of less. Great job Nissan! I hope the waiting list is not that long cuz I want one RIGHT NOW

You have to give it to Nissan. For the price of a base 911 Carrera they have a car that probably beat the 911 Turbo. Of course if the Nissan had over 200 meters less to travel that might negate the 2 seconds. However it is still a remarkable accomplishment. But remember I doubt Porsche is sitting still. It would not take Porsche a lot to tweek the 911 turbo to make up or beat 2 seconds over 13 miles.Lighter seats,a slight tweek to the engine or suspension and your there. Because over those 13 miles are over 188 corners. So I would not call 2 seconds over 13 miles an ass kicking. If you notice in the video the last part of the course is pretty long straightaway. A really fast/quick car could easily make up those 2 seconds right there.

pretty impressive given the cost of a skyline is around 80k and laps the ring faster then all the cars in its price range, and has the looks...what's stupid is where the gtr starts is not where the gtr's laptime ends and isn't a proper start and finish mark always at teh same place...there was a best motoring video awhile ago claiming the nsx could lap the ring in under 8 min, the start line and finish line were like a couple miles away, how could they claim that to be a proper lap time?! ridiculous and same with this vid but obviously not as bad, i would add maybe 2 or 2.5 seconds to the 7.38 so still pretty good

we just await to see if the production car can lap it as fast, i'm not saying it can't but just gotta wait and see..also where it says those areas of the track are wet may not actually be wet cause it so dark you cna't even see a thing and when the skyline comes out of the dark its completely dry so don't believe everything they tell you..

if i had the money i'd definitely take this over an M3 or RS4...same price range and twice the performance..forget all about that "at the end of the day its a nissan" at the end of the day the M3 and RS4 both got owned by a "nissan"

That's not the problem. Sometimes, some people just need a more practical car than the GT-R and have to "compromise" with an M3 or RS4.

OK, so is it bang for the buck, all-out performance or comfort, S4? You don't seem to be able to accept the performance aspect. This is right there with the vette too. If it's personal preference, just say it. I love the new R8 and am shocked it overtook the 911, but I'd still rather have the 911 due to personal preference. I could argue with someone for days, I suppose, but it comes down to that. It's OK to like lots of cars - hell I even like the new CTS.
