Nissan has taken the covers off of their latest factory tuned GT-R, the Spec V, and unfortunately this model has been uncovered to be the slowest of the R-35s.

Despite this, Nissan is still developing the GT-R in order to release an upgraded version that they are calling the Series II. This vehicle will receive an upgraded suspension; a retuned transmission, stickier rubber and a 5 HP increase.

Toshio Suzuki, Nissan’s head test driver, told GT-R blog that the modifications made to the Series II should allow the vehicle to navigate the 33 left turns and 40 right turns that make up the Nürburgring in about 5 seconds less than the current model.

The Nürburgring is 73 corners though so I think it's believable, it's a long track, if you pick up just 0.1 seconds per corner on average it's already a saving of 7.3 seconds, that's if we only consider corners, there are also long straights which even 5 extra horses can play a role.

I think that's a reference to the run done by Best Motoring in which the Spec V was slower than the stock GT-R. A result that just didn't make sense so I would doubt that that proves to be the rule.

Have you ever heard of Bugatti Veyron, junior? SLR Mercedes? Yes, Italians do have plenty of supercars also but please don't put the...YEE-HAW(LOL)ZR1 next to real supercars. ZR1 belongs in the econobox category with the Nissan GT-R.

The GT-R is basically a mini version of the Veyron. Both AWD, and very fast. The publications where correct. The GT-R and even the ZR-1 are the "Kings of the Ring". Even the R8 is good.

first off nissan lied about first GT-R times around the nurburgring why dont they make a half hour tv special out of it between the enzo and the Series 2 at nurburgring so we can see the truth not some made up number they were thinking in their head to sell the car. they needed to do something about the tranny anyway because the one in the current model is trash i think nissan has a well thought out plan for this car but the only thing i can say to nissan is if your trying to build a premium exotic car with a premium price then you have to use premium exotic parts. dont have the public pay 70-80-even 90 thousand dollars for a car with a tranny that is shot after one race from an actual customer. to me thats a peice of crap the car was built for racing its pretty much a race car out of the box. get your shyt together nissan

The Essence is far from a sure production thing. Right now it's a show car only. But even if it gets produced that should have no bearing on the GT-R because Nissan has always had the harder sports cars over Infiniti, just as the Z has always been more hard core than the G37. The Essence will probably be more of a GT version of the GT-R if they base it off the GT-R.

I think people need to realize that the Enzo is 7 years old, and soon enough there will be full production cars that will be quicker then it. Technology will always prevail.

That being said 99.9999% of people who own super cars own them for reasons besides speed. I would say that 1% of the super cars privately owned are ever actually raced. The dudes that own them dont care, and when you come up in your Nissan and say how much faster you are around Nürburg they will just laugh and open the door for their super model wife.

As far as German cars, sure it may be faster. But its like wearing a digital watch (Japan) or a Tag (German), sure the Casio G-Shock watch may last longer, is less expensive, and may even keep better time, oh and it will tell you time zones, and has 14 different alarms to set. But when it comes down to it who wants one? Speed and function =/= Refinement and quality.

Nobody can achieve the times claimed by Nissan because they are not REAL times. Nissan pulled one of the biggest scams in automotive hystory with the GT-R by providing cars that were not stock for testing around the world.
The REAL performance of an unmodified factory stock GT-R is absolutely pathetic. Not only that the transmissions are exploding when doing some spirited driving around town but the car is nowhere close to the perfomance claims Nissan made.
As top car engineers explained it is definetely not posible for an undeengineered pig like the GT-R to post better times than engineering marvels like Porsche.

Ultimately, the GT-R is just another boy racer car that people living in ghettos feel they have a connection with, not because they can afford it(they obviously can't) but because it gives them the impression that there is so much more in common they have with Nissan, than with a symbol of success like Porsche. The GT-R is the frustrated Japanese fan living in the ghetto lifelong dream. If he could only beat a Porsche...that's what he lives for.

Jeremy Clarkson, Chris Harris, and Tiff Needel all think that the GT-R is like a mini Veyron. But, the GT-R is 1/20th the price of the Veyron. Amazing indeed. The GT-R is a real breakthrough product.

I agree with them, they are smart chaps, who have driven the most exclusive cars in the world. From the Veyron, to the CCX, to the Zonda F. These guys really know what they are talking about.

Producing the X6 was a bad decision. Canceling the CS was a bad decision. Cheap leases was a bad decision. Inflated residuals is what happened. These things add up, now BMW is in financial trouble. To bad.

Last year, net profits for BMW went down almost 90 percent but company heads claimed that the carmaker is in good health financially speaking.
As it turned out the 89.5 percent drop in BMW’s profits, which was equivalent to 2.4 Billion Euros (2.24 Billion Pounds), is attributed to exceptional costs connected to bad debts, personal costs and provisions to cover risks on used car outlets.

All great examples of how clunky, noisy, unrefined, unpolished, and mediocre BMW's are. They sound like they are going to fall apart at every shift. BMW owners might as well buy a Camaro or Mustang and save money if they want an unrefined childish joy ride.

Numbers may vary but they are close. Both are very nice cars. The Veyron has more HP and torque but also a lot more weight to sling around which will affect its overall performance on a track with a lot of corners. If you're only going in a straight line the Veyron wins hands down.
