Fact Or Fiction? Are Ferrari Sales Really In The Toilet?

Dear 001,

I work in the industry and I know the reports are saying that Ferrari sales were down drastically in November.

In fact Autocar magazine is reporting they only sold 92 cars globally last month. Of course this is something that Ferrari has denied.

Now, I know Ferrari didn't even sell ONE car in California in the month of September but when I look at publicly available sale figures from Motor Intelligence, it clearly indicates they sold 137 vehicles in the US for November which was a slight rise over last year.

So who is telling the truth here? Ferrari or the some gloom and doom tabloid reporter?

Maybe one of your readers within within a Ferrari dealership can set the record straight and give all of the real scoop?.

Yeah, I cancelled my order for the 599 GTB Fiorano when I found out Lexus might produce a $200k celica, er I mean Lexus.

Who gives a crap really? Even if they sold two hundred cars a month, a single Buick dealership probably sells more than that lol. Ferrari (FIAT) will be swallowed up by a larger company, the question is not if, but when.

Yes offcourse, since the Swallowing big companies like "Buick"owner General Motors,Ford etc. are going to throw up after swallowing too much????

Ferrari-Fiat-AlfaRomeo-Lancia will be swallowed up : hahahaha

Perhaps you have no idea about their money intake from F1,franchising,the Rich "Sheikhs" in the middle east etc.

We still need to consider the power of the brand. I would expect to pay $200 or more for a Ferrari. But $200K for a Lexus? I don't think so. It is not simply about power and performance, but prestige. To Lexsucks point, the LF-A will certainly give Ferrari a run for its money (in terms of performance). But, Lexus needs to reconsider their price point for the vehicle. Lexus aside, Ferrari is a boutique shop, and I believe it will survive regardless of declines in sales. While a merger with a comparable brand is not entirely unreasonable (i.e. I don't see GM picking them up.), I think they could stand on their own. I do like a Ferrari/Fiat marriage, though. It might give AR loyalists a step up from the Spider.

The lexus LFA challenges the BMW M3. I doubt it can beat a Ferrari in a similar price range.

Ferrari is a race car company first and foremost. It has been their business model for over 60 years. they are the only auto manufacturer in the world that puts racing as priority over auto manufacturing. They sell cars to support the racing effort. They build fewer cars than anyone because thats not there business. Thats why well heeled will PAY to own one. Its the closest thing to owning a race car. Nothing compares. Nothing will ever compare. Sales are down/ are the same, who cares. They will always be selling the most desired cars in the world. Drive one if you doubt. You will understand.

Not exactly true, Ferrari has been selling a lot the last couple of years, expanding the factory and adding shifts.

And the California is not a product that looks completely race bred to me.

Not sure if the sales numbers are correct, however the past 3 motnhs resale on Ferraris have tanked drastically as more F430s are becoming available.
Even the 599 is hit hard.. and I mean... HARD!!
