Fifth Gear: Tiff reviews the Audi A3 Cabriolet
Watch as Tiff Needel gets behind the wheel of the brand new Audi A3 Cabriolet. Just as a refresher, the Audi A3 Cabriolet comes in four engine variants including two TDIs and two TFSIs. The 1.9 TDI 4-cylinder engine produces 105 horsepower taking 12.3 seconds to get from 0-62. The 2.0 TDI engine produces 140 horsepower and takes 9.9 seconds to get from 0-62. The new 1.8 liter TFSI produces 160 horsepower while the 2.0 liter TFSI produces 200 giving it the ability to go from 0-62 in 7.3 seconds with a top speed of 143 mph.
We are looking forward to seeing comparison between the A3 Cabriolet and the upcoming BMW 1-Series Convertible.

Yes the U.S. will get the A3 cabriolet. If BMW is going to release their 1-series convertible in the U.S. you sure as hell better believe Audi is going to release the A3 cabriolet for the U.S. real soon.

Josh, Lexus better drop the Toyota brand, and fast!

Josh, someone looking at a Lexus will likely realize its a Toyota and go looking at another brand...........
That's just as dumb!
In Canada Acura sells a model (EL?) that's a Civic with Leather.
Its cheaper than a base VW Bettle (and a lot less features)
What a POS.
But it doesn't seem to slow the sales of their MDX SUV.
Having a breadth of models has worked well for VW, Toyota, Audi ... nobody will ever mistake an A3 for an A8!

Not bad but I can't help feeling that if VW would have made a new Cabrio/Cabriolet that this is what it would have looked liked. The silhouette of it looking like a hatch when the roof is up makes me think this.... much like the last Golf Cabrio.

Josh, if you want a real economy car, look up the Audi A2, with 80 MPG performance (better than anything from Toyota, including their hybrids ... but without the environmental disaster from the batteries).
And if you want a real luxury car, look at a Phaeton or Passat W8 (makes the Avalon look like a Hyundai Pony)
You can't generalize based on brand ... unless you know nothing about cars.

I don't like it. Leave it to Europe. I much prefer how my A3 hatch looks.

Yes, and you conveniently left out the 2.0 TFSI which will absolutely embarrass the Lexus IS250. Nice one, kid.

Why would you compare cars with 105hp and 140hp, which are both built for Europe, to a car with 210hp (IS250)? You wouldn't. If you had to compare the IS250 to an A3, it would only be the 2.0T, which would leave it in the dust.

Well that 2.0 tdi is almost as slow as the old IS200 - 0-60 in a cracking 10.8 seconds.
What about the 1.8 TFSI? 160 hp and 0-62 in 8.5 seconds.

LOL OMG! I am so sick of this Lexus IS250 crap! The IS 250 is a dog, simple.... the IS350 is much better, but still does not handle like a BMW 3 series.... I kow I have driven them both back-to-back. And yes I can buy one.... and so can my dad, but he would never buy a Lexus... Souped up Toyota are all they are.

I hope Josh doesn't travel outside the US, and see a "Toyota ES300" or "Toyota GS" model! It would break his heart to know that Lexus is just a US name for a Toyota that's built in Japan.
And nobody is buying the TDI for racing. Although my son's '98 Bettle TDI will smoke his Corolla off the line ... it still beats Civic SI's and it has > 218,000 on the clock!
