First REAL Look At The Next BMW 7-Series- BMW Brings Sexy Back To Bangle's Butt
BMW's all-new range-topper has made an unscheduled, unofficial 'debut' Down Under

The beautiful BMW is on its way back! Caught during a brochure shoot in Melbourne's South Yarra earlier today (Sunday, March 2), the all-new 7 Series promises a return to classical BMW proportions and looks.

The car (expected to be unveiled at September's Paris Show later this year -- at the earliest!) is a major departure from the current 7. Looking a class smaller but still a full-S-Class competitor, the new generation's styling is clearly linked to the Concept CS BMW displayed last year in Shanghai and showed locally at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.

Hooray! Blind BMW cheerleading at it's finest!

I have grown to really like the current Bangle 7 series a radical design that did not look like anything else. I know new BMW will look great, but I you have to give BMW credit for taking the risk for using the Chris Bangle designs. No other luxury auto company would have the courage to take a design risk like BMW.

right, when BMW gets soundly criticized for design flaws, they're "trendsetters", when a Japanese company does it they're clueless. It's funny then that the only BMW that gets praise for being nicely designed is the 3-series...the only one that they played it safe with, and has no Bangle influence whatsoever.

The silhouette of the car looks aggressive and sporty. That rear haunch is nice and muscular and it looks like those front kidney grills are much larger than the current gen. I'm predicting a lot of CS concept elements, which is a great thing.

This new redesign will be interesting. Knowing that the vehicle will look small but remain a "full S-class competitor" is truely promising. I've always liked the '00-'02 7-series...just wished it could've been had with AWD. Maybe that will be an option this time around.

I don't know about the rest of you, but this is the most exciting car to be released this upcoming year (and that includes the Porsche Panamera)

BMW has perfected the flame surfacing, and judging by the 3-series coupe and X6, you know this thing is going to be a masterpiece.

Those kidney grilles look massive like the CS and that rear profile shot makes the car look very muscular. CANT WAIT to see the real deal.

I like what I see or what I can make out from these photos. It appears BMW is going the right direct. IMO the front was never the problem. That Bangle BUTT had to go and they made it a lot nicer with the refresh mode. I hope BM continues to revise what they have now but not change the complete design of the current or else the 7 series identity will be lost.

They must maintain the boldness of the 7 series cause that's what I think really distinguished itself from the S and the A8.

S4, Here's the article I remember mentioning the 7 would have AWD as an option.

http://www.leftlanenews.com/bmw-7-series-future.html

And I would guess they launch late 2008 or early 2009, perhaps as a 2010 model...who knows?

bmwdrvrbmwdrvr - 3/3/2008 8:13:09 AM
0 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
judging from how bmw does its product life cycle i would say it will be an 09 model, with the 5 and 6 series to follow 1-2 years later, and the 3 series to come out in what 2012. but hey i was wrong about its styling i could be wrong there also lol. i guess styling you have to keep fresh alot faster now its so not like BMW to change direction so fast, and the 7 series normally sets the tone for the rest of the lineup styling wise so i guess the 3,5 and 6 will get this treatment as well

JRobUSCJRobUSC - 3/3/2008 10:52:21 AM

the car is expected to arrive at U.S. dealerships by January of 2009. AWD will not be available at launch, it's expected one year later.

This version of the 7 series will definitely be a hot model even though only the side doors are seen from these pictures. With this on the road will make it and the LS460L the best looking sedans. Now its time for the A8 to have new looks, and sadly the MB S class still have another decade to fix its current ugly design.

Oh, well lets hope this new 7 series has a nice interior too not as ugly as the current model.

I personally love BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Porsche, Audi, Infiniti, Ferrari, Lambourghini and believe it or not a couple of Cadillacs (wth). But again, I love cars not a particular brand. I wish it was more people like that on this site.

Great post! Nice to see someone put it plain.

You're absolutely right, whenever there's a BMW thread, you can bet some will try to make it a BMW v. lexus war, and vice versa. Neither of these companies is intended to appeal to everyone, so we should all just learn to co-exist, and realize that competition is what's making these cars better and better.

The great thing about the current 7 is that it went from looking like a stretched 5 to an imposing presence that demanded attention. I wasnt the biggest fan, because all the '90s Bimmers were beautiful, even if they were three sausages, different sizes. Now I dont like the style of any of them.

This new 7 looks like it might keep the bold, imposing presence while returning to a more elegant, sophisticated style, like the Bimmers of yore.

GoObama08 it is only fitting that a guy that is voting for an empty suit for president would love the empty sheet metal that is Lexus. Also Obama think about why Lexus sells more cars, it is because all there models cost less than the Germans and thus more people can buy them. See statistics sometimes lie.

I can't exactly tell how the rear-end has changed, but from the looks of the leading twin lines, it already looks promising. I'm excited about the new era under Hooydonk's design. This will be one of many starting with their 7 series. I do hope they improve their iDrive to be more intuitive and their cockpit layout.

I am an avid partisan against BMW. But even the big front grill on this car looks good. From the side it looks like an extended 3 series side. Overall the shape is much lowere, very reminiscent of the old 7 series which i liked quite a lot. I think this car has great promise. But Merc S Class is really gorgeous, i think the best Mercedes I have seen(off course except the classic ones), and Audi A8 is up for revision, and Lexus LS is also very grand, and If Jaguar has the guts to do it, they might make the next XJ like the CXF and very radiacal. If a car like CXF is made available, i will snatch it up blindly, really i have not seen a car as perfectly balanced in beauty, aggression, and modern design as the C XF in my recent memory, although i must say BMW CS is very close, almost up there with the CXF. If Jaguar can make the XJ like the CXF, especially the front, then i promise to buy that car.
