Indian carmaker Mahindra is planning to enter the competitive SUV and pickup market within two years and has already started signing up dealers through its US distributor. They’re planning to sell the Scorpio SUV, and a pickup truck with 2.6L turbodiesel engine, reports AutoWeek.

The small carmaker based in Mumbai has sold the Scorpio in overseas markets such as Malaysia, South Africa, Russia, Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal so news of a US release isn’t so surprising. Unlike many Chinese manufacturers that have sold cars mainly in the homeland, Mahindra has shown it can be competitive in the international market.

The top of the line Scorpio SLX retails for 828,132 rupees in India (US$18,500), which could mean a final price tag of under $25,000 when it lands.
