First autobahn speed limit imposed
If you’ve ever wanted to drive the autobahn for its celebrity status of not having a speed limit, you better get over to Germany quick. The northern city of Bremen has become the first to introduce a speed limit on its autobahns yesterday and it doesn’t look like it’ll stop there. The speed limit, set to 75mph, will affect 37 miles of road.

“This is a good day for traffic safety and we are also sending a signal about protecting the environment and climate,” said Reinhard Loske, Bremen’s environment minister. “Our goal is to introduce a general speed...

I am German, I live in Germany and this pisses me off.

Expert computer simulations have shown that having a speed limit on the German Autobahns will have a fall in CO2 by a whooping 3%. Most of the CO2 emissions that are harming the ozone are not from cars but from industrial complexes all over the world.

But what am I complaining about? I live near Munich and I often travel to Stuttgart on the Autobahn A8. 90% of that Autobahn is already limited to a pathetic 120 km/h.

My friend, there is a simple solution - vote CDU, and donate to CDU!

the globe, on average, has been getting warmer. This is fact. However, what is causing it is definately up for debate.

maybe it was the comment: " this Global warming BS which is not even happening"
Have you seen the photos of arctic glaciers now and just 15 years ago?

Seems you and George Bush are the only ones still denying not just that the world is warming, but at a rate that is probably 1000x as fast as anything in the past.......

Lets put a speed limit on all Autobahns ... but one that makes sense.
The German car makers govern their cars to 155 MPH (which I think in reality is 250 kmph???).
Its no coincidence that its also the maximum speed of Z-Rated tires, the fastest readily available at most tire shops.

So, lets see a global move to limit highway speed to 250 kmph or 155 MPH in recognition that running faster than your tires are rated for is simply not safe! :)

I lived in southern Germany in the early 80's and most of the autobahn around Munich had a speed limit so this is not something new for the autobahn, just new for the area in which the speed limit has now been established. The author of this article needs to do a little more indepth research.
