First look at the next-gen 3-series
The current E90 BMW 3-series has only been on the market since 2005 but details about the next-gen model are already circulating with most agreeing that the next model will feature styling lifted from the Concept CS. Due in 2012, the next BMW 3-series will be the first of a family of BMW cars with a more recognizable face derived from the original styling of the Shanghai concept. Read Article

That's badge whores for you. They defend their brand and then go out and contradict each other.

Much better desing then the current but still not as good as the previous model. There's something about the back end on this one that looks odd.

We very much like what we have--we dont contradict. But when we see something better, we speak up. Unlike people who criticize BMW but then defend the EXACT same styling cues on their pet brand.

I was also thinking that the current design was pretty nice, although I didn't particularly like the dash.

The new exterior lines look remarkable. I just hope the interior gets as much better.

I dont like the current 3-series sedan.

Front is fine but I hate the rear... just my opinion.

This will make it less of a chick's car.

I agree-its the tail lamps. They needed to put the taillamps from the E92 on the E90

Better, then the current design, the front needs to be redesigned, and the back end reminds me too much of a Peugeot.

The CS concept is a truly beautiful concept and having BMW integrate that design in all of its line up is good, this new 3 series is MUCH MUCH better than the current design. They need such designs to they can compete against the Japanese designs, otherwise they'll lose the battle. And besides the exterior design I hope they'll fix the interior design as well.

I think this new design is great, I've seen it somewhere before though... so it's a little old. Nonetheless, I don't much like the current 3 sedan, the headlights are weird and I don't like the current twin-kidney grill with the larger chrome piece squaring off the top. The back of the car is alright, but the design looks like it could be on the back of a honda or something. Hopefully this new design is toned down just a bit, then put into production!

agreed. the cs styling incorporated into the 3 series has got me excited. the bmw had lost its jewel-like quality found in the other maker's cars in its entire line except the 7 series. the cs finally brings it back... & brings it back well.

i do like the look of the new 3 series coupe & think it is probably the best design yet, but i cant get the image of a old school honda civic coupe jazzed up with a bmw grill & badge on the front everytime i see it.

Better than the current one but not as good as the immediately past model. Their designs used to be so elegant. sigh......

I own a e46 nice car and good looking imo. i dont like the e90 not out not indside, only the coupe is nice looking at the outside. I think this car need to be made very soon, because BMW need that car to compete with the Lexus and the comming new A4. This one have the look to make the 3 a winner. BMW just remember that inside we want the dashboard to turn a little like the e46.

They really should go back with the original kidney grill and pay it some respect instead of carving it up like a watermelon-into-swan fruit-server trophy in the breakfast line at the Hyatt.

I second 43LE. Rear looks great, almost production-ready. Front needs some more work.
I like the way my IS drives, but my son's 3 series is just a little better. Something about the BMW's shock valving and spring setup. They just have the edge somewhere.

Current 3 series' still turn my head because I think "Oh that sucks for somebody - his brand new BMW is dented". It's not dented, its just the styling - especially on the coupes. Behind the front wheels, does it look dented to you?

It's just an "artist's deception". I care about what something *is*, not what someone *imagines* it to be.
