First official photos of the Chevrolet Cruze
Today GM released the first photographs of Chevrolet's all-new Cruze sedan which will make its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October. Cruze's arching roof-line, extending from the steeply raked windshield to its sloping rear pillars and short rear deck, brings coupe-like proportions to a compact sedan.

Cruze's profile is matched by bold front styling, with large headlamp housings that wrap around the front corners and sweep up, arrow-like, into the fenders and sculpted hood. Other distinct design themes include a concave shoulder line, the two-tier grille and a "wheels-out/body-in" stance. Inside, Cruze features a 'twin cockpit' design motif, first introduced in the Corvette.

"Our goal in designing Cruze was to be bold, not evolutionary," says chief designer Taewan Kim. "We wanted to take a big step forward, making a strong design statement for Chevrolet products around the world."

At launch in Europe, Cruze will be available with 16-valve, 1.6-liter (112 hp/82 kW) and 1.8-liter (140 hp/103 kW) gasoline engines featuring variable valve timing (VVT) on both inlet and exhaust sides, giving more power as well as better fuel economy and lower emissions. A new 2.0-liter turbo diesel, developing 150 hp/ 110 kW and 320 Nm of torque adds power with even greater frugality. Five-speed manual gearboxes and an all-new automatic transmission, Chevrolet's first six-speed application in the compact segment, complete the powertrain menu.

The Chevrolet Cruze will be available in Europe from March 2009, followed by other global markets with regional-specific engine choices.

It seems that GM has copied the shape of the new BMW F01 7-series taillights LOL.

very good looking economy car....GM is really doing a good job with styling, and product improvements with each new generation....certainly best in styling wise in this segment until the new mazda 3 gets here

this car looks very good. i'm pretty impressed. i'm waiting to see what they've done with they interior before passing any judegements. we all know chevy (and GM as a whole) can be very weak in this department. Chevy has slowly been making some progress lately, if this car is what it looks like it might be, they may finally make it.

judging by the Cadillac CTS, malibu, and vue...the interior on this car should be pretty good...GM has been getting interiors and exteriors right lately on its new cars

Not sure why GM is holding off introducing it here in the US until 2011 when sales will begin in Europe next year.

Looks good, much better than the Cobalt. Kudos on the 6 speed tranny too. Lets see if they can make a segment leader rather than always being a step behind the leaders.

The look is great. Agressive and bold for the econocar segment. Not so bland like some of them (Corolla, Elantra, Focus, Sentra, etc.) Big improvement from the Cobalt!

You think that the sentra is bland?! Seemed pretty agressive since the last time I saw it.

I do think it is bland and slab-sidded. Doesn't raise my pulse, but that is my opinion. I will say to its credit that it has some sporty elements to it. More exciting than say the toaster, I mean Corolla.

good point. sentra is rather bland, but i think this has more to do with it's ride hight than it's styling. if is's overall hight were to be reduced i think it would be more compelling than in it's present state. similar to the update on the present civic. it's also true with the execption of the present civic, that it's less bland than some of it's competition...

Sentra is bland--and crap. I had the misfortune of having one tossed at me at the dealership last fall. Nissan needs to fire every designer and start over.

The biggest hurdle GM faces is getting people to consider this over a Honda or Toyota. Looks like a great car, lets hope the quality is on par with other recent GM offerings, who knows, GM could become a player again in the small car market.

the tail lights are pretty much an exact copy of the asian/middle eastern civic... true test of any progress will be the interior design & materials used by GM

Like the look overall, except the Sebring-like trim along the rear door windows and C-pillar.

The bottom line is how much gas does it burn? It looks great, but will probably be bad on fuel? Or not as good as the competition. I hope chev makes me eat my words! I would like something bigger than a civic with better fuel numbers.
