Flick off Friday - Kia’s stab at the Audi TT
Flick off Friday, is your chance to flick off someone or some company doing something totally outrageous in the auto industry. For example, Kia debuting a concept that will go head-to-head with the Audi TT.

Earlier this week Kia said it is planning a Audi TT rival for the Frankfurt Motor Show. Designed by, Peter Schreyer, the original designer of the TT for Audi, he plans to show Audi exactly what Kia is capable of. But it’s not even the question of design that concerns us. Kia’s TT fighter will have front-wheel drive and a 2.9 liter turbo-charged engine, which is being built in collaboration with Hyundai.

The main question is will Hyundai and Kia be able to beat German engineering in producing a car that will perform better than the Audi TT? We doubt it.

The Audi TT base model, on the other hand, has a 2.0 liter inline-4 cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and if you want to go for more you can get the 3.2 liter quattro that produces 250 horsepower.

So what do you think? Should Kia be given a chance to prove themselves, or should they just be flicked off?

Yeah...I think they be given an opportunity to play with the big boy and see what it like. You never know, they might be able to it. It will be an embrassment to Audi if they create a beater to the Audi TT.

Well maybe the first generation will be unsophisticated but by the third or fourth generation I'm sure it'll take a lot of sales away. The Koreans are good at constantly improving their products - although I've never owned one yet, they do represent very good value, and some are even ok to look at.

This is a little bit like Acer proclaiming they’re debuting an iPod killer because they’ve hired the designer of the click-wheel, and their model will have more memory. It’s laughable, and nothing more than a simple, classic marketing strategy... and it seems to have worked. The whole enthusiast community now appears to be at least curious as to what this new car from Kia will be, and that’s exactly what they wanted. Would it have garnered nearly as much interest (i.e. Polls to gauge reaction) if they said "Miata fighter?" No; but that’s probably much closer to reality. Kudos to the Kia marketing department.

You know something? You're right...I had a little lapse in judgement for a moment. What the hell was I thinking. After careful consideration, I do realize that Kia is a far more superior vehicle.

I have say this on the other post, that it won't work for a very long time. Because no German, Japanese, American fanboys going trade their favorite toy in for this Kia. That is just way life is sometime.

The only way they can be successful is that the Audi owner trade the TT in for a Kian, Which well "NEVER HAPPEN".

Kia/Hyundai I gave you prob for trying, but right now is Not the right time; timing is everything.

Let get realistic here "NO" one is going to trade in their BMW, Lexus, Acura, Audi, MB and the Infiniti for a Kia.

S4, yeah I know man :) I just messing with you. It won't work because unless you and others Audi owner trade in you Audi.

At least for now, it won't work for sure, because why would want to pay premium for Kia? which at best has baseline quality. One of the newest auto brand on the market.

This segment is just to crowded already, it will be really hard to still customers. Because customers in this brand are very loyal their brand.

What about the down the future will it be successful in this segment? how the hell am I suppose to know; I'm not a fortuneteller.

Hey! I think it will be very funny and scary if their design look exactly like the Audi TT. After all, Kia is known for stealing other brand design; like their Armanti.

LOL the Amanti is a joke. Cheap interior, hideous mess of E-Class/S-Type exterior, complete with exaggerated grille...

Not a competitor to the TT. Is this it?

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=15&article_id=4944

The only thing it shares with the TT is the designer of the original TT. This is more of a Eos type more relaxed convertible. And I think the Kia will have a 2.0-liter turbo.

is the TT as small as the car in that picture? Maybe it's the angle or something. In the picture that car looks small enough to be a Smart ForTwo convertible, or like a remake of the old Geo Metro convertible.

MB is for old farts like you.

BMW is for aging balding yuppies who wear pleated, tapered khakis and penny loafers. They dance the mambo and think they're cool.

Lexus is NEW, hi-tech, and for forward thinkers.

A fool like you would look so out of place in it.

Sorry I have a clear view of the world.

My wife has an RX330... but I have two Audis, and will probably get one BMW and one Audi to replace them.

I may prefer owning German cars, but I know Lexus makes a good car. Does that mean I WANT one? No! But I can understand why someone would!

RiceMaster what kind of stupid comment is that bro? And if it run like "Shit" than what? Toyota take the blame. Secondly Toyota has Far more MONEY...................$$$ than Kia.

Formula1, your comment are just pure stupid, do some research and come back ok. Lexus is current gaving the German brand a fight for their money.

Lexus brand is in the same as the like of BMW, Audi and MB. In fact the new Lexus LS is so good Jeremy Clarkson compare to like of RR.

Stop chimp wake up and stop living in the past.

Okay, I agree with the rest of your comments, but...

Lexus, will you admit that the LS IS NOT A COMPETITOR TO ANY ROLLS-ROYCE?

Since the Jeremy Clarkson article, it's all any of you have been talking about!

They're in HUGELY DIFFERENT CLASSES!

Nobody considering a Phantom would EVER, EVER, EVER consider an LS!!!

S4, that jack Formula1 is really making all of you German fanboys look bad; for sure.

Come on I know and everyone here know that currently Kia has nothing against Audi. Even if it make a good car, it still a Kia.

And for those of you who say Lexus is just a Toyota; you're wrong. Starting with 2006-2007 model Lexus use it own platform. Second, Toyota brand has more realibility and quality than Kia. Lastly, Toyota has been around way longer than Kia.

Will this vehicle be a true TT rival: probably not. But I do look forward to seeing some unique product from this company. Some of their new vehicles have had some positive reviews in the fit and finish categories. Perhaps they can take a few styling risks and shake things up a bit.
