Flights of Fantasy: If Audi Entered F1 They Look Like This?
Audi F1. The very idea is makes the heart skip a beat as if you’re thinking of something a bit taboo. Though everyone and their brother, sister and second cousin twice removed have whispered the unfounded rumors on internet forums and even on some news pages, most know that the likelihood of it actually happening is slim-to-none. Having invested considerably in the diesel R10 Le Mans program and shown a clear preference for participating in series where they can maximize on race-to-road technology development, it’s a very safe assumption to say that Audi won’t be going into Formula One any time soon. Still, seeing those four silver rings plastered on an F1 racecar is enough to cause some talk around the water cooler. All the better if such an sight is a super-detailed CGI based on an actual F1 chassis, as has been created by the talented Australian architect and designer Kim Stapleton.

As an Audi enthusiast, Kim has yearned to see the four-ringed brand in Formula One for years. From the time the designer initially laid eyes on the first studio imagery of the R10 TDI racecar, the car’s more radical and F1-looking aerodynamic shape, in particular the lines at the front, inspired him to go one step further and create a visualization of just what an Audi F1 entrant might look like.

Looks great, but unlikely to happen, maybe after the new rules go in effect.

F1 is boring ... the starting grid is the ending grid.

I am a kid in a go kart, to me, on great go karts like Rotax RM1 etc. is an alternative to F1 if you wanted to be a F1 Driver and you can't. And I race a F1 Boston.

Excellent renderings... they do look spot on (obviously the tyres are wrong, currently F1 uses bridgestones).

Diesel will be a long way off in F1, and forget about AWD.

Audi in F1, they'd be in the top 5 pretty quickly, most manufacturer teams are at the top, independent teams are at the bottom. The assumption that they would win is just wrong... F1 is not as predictable as some think,... a Renault beating a Ferrari, a Mercedes a Bimmer, a Honda and a Toyota? When you think of car brands you would not expect the line up to be like that!.

I'd hope if VAG got into F1 they'd use the lamborghini name instead of the Audi brand... it'd just sound cooler!

if you want to see how audi woudl look on the grid, find a picture of super aguri at the back of the grid. Now add 4 circles and a seemingly idiotic statement like "always follow". they need to stick to lemans where no other tier 1 manufacturer bothers or cares to compete.

AUDI would never enter F1 - too much competition. They'd rather race against themselves in the ALMS.

don't forget audi's success a few decades ago in rallying, they were unbeatable, and hence moved on and tried something different, which again they are at the top of their game with (Le Mans). as the article suggests, it will be very interesting to watch audi enter F1; that's if it ever does.

UNBIASED OBSERVATION

This is such a joke... this article is about some very well done renderings of a race car that will never exist (it's 2006 spec, even if Audi entered F1, the car would not look like this)..... 99% of people on this site don't know about motorsport, they just know about the propoganda that their beloved brand tells them. And then when they get confronted with irrefutable facts they start trying to argue about what the most important racing series is, and that usually happens to be the one that their chosen brand is doing well in.

THE NOT SO UN-BIASED BIT

"Audi choose to race in series' that can directley benefit road cars, and they don't race in F1 because they don't like the technical limitations?" THEN WHY DO THEY RACE IN DTM!!!! Check out DTM's regs, they are about as tight as F1, and DTM uses more parts that have to be the same on every single race car....

Yes regs have been changed in the past to outlaw technologies that Audi has used to win (quattro in DTM for instance - regs have changed at Lemans regarding diesels too) - Tough it happens!!! BMW have win ETCC and WTCC recently having to carry more ballast just because they are RWD!!! (although I think they've dropped that rule now)....... Regs get changed to keep motorsport interesting, if Audi choose not to persue a sport that is there choice.

BMW didn't leave Lemans because of Audi, they turned up in 98, had a strong car but made a basic mistake and had to retire both cars. They won in 99... The project was part of the F1 deal with WilliamsF1 (who helped them build the cars) after 99 they had no intention of factory backed LM cars, BMW and Williams went to concentrate on F1, where they did better than average despite never winning the constructors championship.
