Ford Edge Vs Nissan Murano
Now as you have seen the Nissan Murano has been the top dog in the CUV market. Now do you think the Ford Edge can stand up to that? They have tried to build it better then the Murano. Do you think its a hit or a flop?

I like the styling of the Ford Edge way more than the Nissan Murano.

It's a very attractive vehicle, but the interior execution isn't even close, and I'd just be more comfortable betting on a Nissan than a Ford.

Isn't the Edge built of of the Fusion platform and isn't that vehicle reliable and safe?

the Fusion is reliable, but got poor marks in safety.

The Fusion now has standard ABS and side-impact airbags. These were just options in 2006, they're standard in 2007. Im not sure how the safety testing was done (with or without these options)

yes, the 2007 still did VERY BAD compared to it's competitors. Most cars (95%) get a "good" for frontal impact. the 07 Fusion only got "acceptable" Most cars (90%) with Side impact air bags get a "good". 07 Fusion only got "acceceptable" It got 11th place out of 15.

Very dissapointing:

Look at those head and tail lights on the Nissan.

The Murano has HID lights, the Edge has $5,000 increase in repair costs because its American.

wait the nissan competes with a ford?
in the UK it competes with the Lexus RX and the Tribeca.
but we only have one (high) trim level, and the only option is the paint colour.

The RX is far more upscale. Have you ever compared them? Huge difference. I feel that the RX's closest competitors are the Infiniti FX35 and Mercedes ML350.

And, FYI, the FX is a much cooler-looking, gussied-up Murano.

we don't get infiniti in the uk, so nissan does a few more upmarket vehicles too.

Yes, I know-- but WE get the Murano here also, and it's nowhere near as nice as the RX.

Actually the FX and the Murano have little in common. The FX is bases of the G35's rear drive platform, while the Murano is on the Altima's front drive platform, though both are all wheel drive and look vaguely similar. Get your facts straight

WHAT?! A NISSAN competeing with a Lexus? What is up with that...I'd see Infiniti competing more with Lexus. My God. That's Repulsive.

However, the interior is disappointing. It still has the usual cheap surfaces and an overall cost-cutting feel. I'm getting sick of these cheap interiors that are trying to look upscale. It reminds me of the Embassy Suites.

The Murano, on the other hand, is more like a Hilton or Wyndham. I find it interesting to look at, and my nephew has one, and it's a truly quality vehicle. It may have less power, but it's a better car to put your money on. The Edge just looks CHEAP all over. Ford needs some work. It's good-looking, but not even close to competitors from Nissan, Toyota and Honda. I believe it was edmunds that said that it brought nothing new to the table.

I personally think the Nissan will drive and feel better as well as have better features but the Edge definately wins in the looks department.

Ford has to start using quality interior materials the design is pretty cool except the materials a big no no . I have the fusion n im thinking to change the poor cheap plastic to real wood. But most prob we will keep the fusion for abt 5 years.

My father has a 2002 Pathfinder and I have a 2003 Explorer. My Explorer drives 10 times better than the Pathfinder. Nothing says the same cannot be had here. I have not driven either the Murano or the Edge bt i would like to compare them both.

I don't doubt it. The old Pathfinder was a piece of crap.

But I would doubt it if you told us that the Edge drove better than the Murano, let alone your Explorer.

I wouldn't trust any Ford products right now to push me through the snow or drive me into the woods for a camping trip. I'm sure it has some good qualities but I trust those of Nissan much much more. The reduced cabin noise in the Murano is superb for a SUV/Crossover of this class. It's got better quality materials as well compared to the Ford Edge.

However then again even if the Murano was less superior to the Edge, most would assume the Murano would be the better one to go with. IMO the big III from Japan are world class engine designers/makers so their engines are truly reliable. Ford on the other hand has made some great engines especially for the trucks and the muscle cars. Lots of torque but i've stuck to the notion that Fords as well as any domestic breaks down at a much faster rate than Imports and Euros. My two cents.

Just read this month's Motor Trend review of the Ford Edge; they had almost nothing nice to say about it.

Ford better come up something a lot better than this if they are serious about lifting the company out of the grave. I doubt they will though.

Yes, it's pretty mediocre. Edmunds did say it brought nothing new to the table. But I'm sure it'll sell.

What pisses me off is that brands like Chrysler don't know a good thing when it kicks them in the a$$! They come out with the 300C and it's a record-breaking, award-winning, street-crawling style miser. And then, Chrylser rests on its laurels, falls asleep and comes out with something like the Sebring. Ugh!!!

American companies CANNOT DO THIS. They should get something good- and roll with it.

As a German car driver and unbiased, I've never seen an accurate reveiw from Car and Driver, ever. Its like a bad movie critic - if they don't like it, go see the movie.

As good as a Nissan is, the Murano is cheap looking, like the Altima. Ever drive an altima for more than 20min? it feels cheap and light. They need to learn a lesson or two from the Nissan Truck guys.

I agree with S4cabriofoxone. American car companies cannot rest on their laurels aftyer a hit model. Its what happened to the Ford Taurus. They have to keep moving forward like the Japanese do.

In the past it was cool and unique to drive Japanese, and dorky to drive American. Buying Japanese made a statement, especially considering the post WW2 bias.

Now Toyota is new Chevy, bland and boring. Honda is the New Ford and Chrysler became Nissan. Its only a matter of time before these go stale do to over exposure.
