Ford Escape plug-in prototype shows potential
Automakers are moving fast to determine whether plug-in hybrid electric vehicles can be put onto the market affordably.

PHEVs can up to triple fuel mileage in short trips, and recharging costs less than gas to go the same distance. It appears that plug-ins cut tailpipe emissions more than enough to make up for any pollution caused by the plants that generate the electricity to charge them.

That's why the cost of gas has been skyrocketing for no apparent reason.. The light at the end of the oil dependency tunnel is finally visible... There is no supply/ demand reason... it's simply a way for the Middle East to gauge us for as much as they can before we finally loose our dependency on them.

I understand we will still be using a ton of fuel in the years we need to become self sufficient, however this is the first time in history the Middle Eastern's may not have an inevitable grip on North American's finances. Without middle east princes getting their pockets stuffed every time you take you kids to soccer, get food, got to work etc.. Who knows they may have to get off their ass and actually contribute to this planet.. At least they'll have plenty of gasoline for their Bugatti's ..

The Saudis offered a Billion dollars for the technology to run a car on water. The offer was declined.. then destroyed, with the working concept, all of the documentation, and all non public records when the inventor was Murdered.... Stan Meyer said in one of his interviews, we give the Saudis over 250 million dollars each year for oil, don't you think they are going to fight pretty hard to ensure that money keeps coming to them, green technology completely destroys their main source of income, for generations to come.

The real pity is Stan's speculative invention would provide practically free power, it would run on rain, snow, sea water, tap water, river water etc... any source of water..

Do we really think any government would allow their residents to get free power without paying the governments for anything? Do you know how much money they would loose? The challenge is not to get green power, I believe we have already found that, it's getting GREEN POWER THAT THE GOVERNMENT CAN REGULATE AND PROFIT OFF OF. If you collected ground water and river water to run your cars and a generator for your house, can you imagine how much revenue the governments will loose? it would be off the charts... then adding the problems of free power... mainly the governments problems with free power... unless they can control our spending levels on fuel and power there will never be any serious movements twords green power.

Sorry for the rant.. just got up..

This car isn't that efficient when you compare it to PML's car, PML's car 640 bhp compared to this fords 133hp. And PML's batteries last for 4 hours. So should we really be impressed by this suv? It is a step in the right direction but just not as big as it should be.
