I don't know about the Insight, but it was reported that the Prius did an average of 109 MPG during a Hypermileage Marathon back in the fall of 2005 (4 years ago). During this marathon, their best rate reached a whopping 120 MPG.

So he started at 8:15 am on a Saturday and ended this morning on the GW parkway at a little after 5:30. Wow, way to load the test. Might as well have done the test on 95 between Richmond and Jacksonville starting at 10pm on a Saturday, in the right hand land traveling at 46mph. Probably would have the same results.

Id like to see what real world statistics this would get if he started at 8:15am on a Monday. He'd be out of gas by Tuesday morning...just like the rest of us.

Judging from the first comment, I can tell that some out there are not paying close attention to the details of this news. First, this is the record, for a mid-size sedan, not all hybrid vehicles. Second, this very same thing was done with the second-generation Prius. It achieved 110 miles per gallon.

That's great. But when are they going to port this technology over to vehicles that people actually care to drive? If you're that concerned about mileage maximizing, consider public transit.

The fusion is actually a pretty decent drive. Not anywhere near the best, for sure, but pretty good. Same platform as the previous gen mazda 6.
