Sweet! I hope they do. Mazda's product portfolio stands alone and they should have majority ownership as well.

A bad idea on ford's part, while selling mazda may have short term gain, it will almost certainly have long term loss, mazda's are good cars that still sell very well

wow horrible news... this should never happen ford will be helpless i have a feeling its just a rumor they said they were selling volvo but they really need them so yeah..

It would be penny-wise but pound-foolish if they sold their stake in Mazda. Mazda is one of the few Japanese car makes I like. They are more fun to drive than most Toyota & Nissan models.

Although Mazda sales are down, it's a solid long-term investment. The same could be said of Volvo. Ford's European business is in excellent shape. If anything, Ford should consider divesting itself of some of its North American deadwood.

For instance, they should drop the Mercury marque, and convert Lincoln-Mercury dealers into Lincoln-Mazda dealers. They should also start making & selling some of its European models here.
