0L 230hp engine joins the ranks of Ford’s impressive lineup, according to news from Ford’s latest press conference in Dearborn. Called EcoBoost or TwinForce, this smaller, more efficient engine will likely be used in the new Ford Fusion.

Like the 340hp, 3.5L V6 version, this 2.0L engine could also be used in an SUV or crossover such as the next-gen Ford Escape. Fuel efficiency is expected to be near 30mpg in some application however actual figures have yet to be released. Further boosting its efficiency is a dual-clutch Powershift gearbox that will debut alongside the twin-turbo four-pot. The dual clutch cog swapper is anticipated to improve efficiency by 7-9%. Still to be unveiled is an ethanol-injection system that will cool the combustion chamber and decrease charge temps, increasing power and efficiency to near-diesel levels.

Ford. Please let Mazda put this 2.0L engine in the Miata. The Miata has been in need of a power upgrade to keep up with the time.

Hold on. Did I miss something? Ford thinks 230hp from a turbocharged 4-cylinder with direct injection is news? That's a frigging embarassment if you ask me. No less than 280 would impress me.

Put it into further perspective. In 1999, Honda introduced the 240hp 2.0 liter NATURALLY ASPIRATED 4 cylinder.

Isn't the EVO & STI a 290+ HP I4 of similar displacement? Unless this engine is a 1 Liter Turbo 4 pumping 200+ HP w/ 35mpg combined, this shouldn't be news.

The EVO gets 16/22mpg out of a 2.0L, and the STI get's 17/23mpg out of a 2.5L (both of these aren't far off of the 15/21mpg that the 300hp 5.3L v8 in the Chevy Colorado lol) it's one thing to tune for performance, it's an entirely different thing to tune for fuel economy. That all being said, it will be a burn if the car powered by this engine gets less then 30mpg, I'm expecting at least 35-40mpg if put in the right car.

Well a HUGE factor in mpg is, as you said, tuning of the engine for performance/efficiency but the gearing is also a huge factor. The EVO/STI engines, IMO, could get 30mpg easily if gearing was taller.

As Joe said, the STIs and Evos arent effecient with their turbo 4s. Sure, theyre fast, but they give up mpg effeciency. 230hp in a small car like this along with 30+ MPG is pretty huge. But of course haters like Invisible will always hate what theyre jealous of :)

Also, an NA 4 cylinder making 240hp might be impressive. You know whats not? The 140 ft/lb of tq.
