Ford considers SHO version for 2010 Taurus
In the beginning of April we saw a leaked image of the 2010 Ford Taurus that somehow got out the design studio in Dearborn. While we have no idea what’s going to reside under the hood of the 2010 Taurus lineup, there has been talk on the web that Ford is considering bringing back the SHO when the 2010 model hits showrooms.

Ford recently put together a focus group in Chicago where it invited previous Taurus SHO owners to talk about the 2010 Ford Taurus and a possible SHO version. So what happened at this ‘focus group’ meeting? According to a visitor who writes over at V8SHO, Ford decided not to show any concept, sketches or teasers of the 2010 Taurus...

I'd love it if they brought this back. My highschool car was a 2 year old (then) 1991 SHO. It was a great car for it's time.

IMO, the new one should be powered by the Ford Austrailia 4.0 6 cyl with twin turbo.

It wont end up looking that good. Ford has a strict policy against selling attractive cars in the USA.

Question was the SHO engine produced in partnership with Yamaha?

This is a nice rendering. Does not look like a Taurus though. It would make a great Fusion redesign going up against the malibu, accord, and camry.

The previous V8, 3.0 V6 and 3.2 V6 were Yamaha. The manual V6 models had a Mazda trans, IIRC.

Interesting info, Yamaha has a new waverunner called the SHO.

If it's not going to make a profit, Ford's not going to do it. And if they do, it definitely won't have the racing stripes of the rendition.

A bit way too late. SHOs claim to fame was the yamaha engine. Today, we got Nissan altima, maxima, camry, malibu, MAzda6 all putting out over 260hp going to the front wheels. There's nothing Yamaha could do today to give Ford the edge. Even the Pontiac Grand prix has a V8. Only thing SHO succeed in doing is give geeky white kids thuggy attitude while behind the wheel.

What is an SHO for those of us too young to understand what it is? All I know about SHOs, are that they are rusted out cars driven by poor White Trash.

The early 90's for car enthusiasts was all about DOHC, or dual overhead cams.

In 1989, Ford offered a DOHC Taurus with a 220hp 24 valve V6. It did 0-60 in ~6.6-6.8 seconds, and would go 140+ mph. Rev limit/redline was anywhere from 7200 rpm up to 8,000 rpm. The car was ahead of it's time., especially for a FWD.

In 1993, Ford offered the SHO with bumped up displacement and an automatic. It would run 0-60 in ~7.5 seconds, which was pretty fast for a FWD automatic.

Ford also had the Thunderbird 3.8 SC which would travel to 60 in ~7 seconds and the Mustang GT which was ~6.6 sec to 60. IMO, that was the last of the good times for Ford.

It is important to note that up to this point the US was dealing with emissions that choked cars of performance. Your average car then did 0-60 in ~10 seconds, some much worse.

Now as you mentioned, they are mostly trashed.

Back in the day, if you wanted a relatively quick FWD sedan:
The SHO's predecessor, IMO was the Saab 9000 Turbo 4 cyl 16 valve which boasted 160hp FWD. This ran 0-60 in ~8 seconds without tuning, which was popular. It's successor, IMO was Cadillac's 1994 STS with 300hp 4.6 32 valve V8 which was slightly faster than a 3.0 SHO.

If they do the SHO it would be perfect w/ that 3.6(?)liter V-6 Turbo engine they have in the MKZ. Always room for more performance/fun cars. What I never understood about Ford is why have SHO when you have SVT? I know SHO is Super High Output or something, but why not just put it under the SVT division?

Are they even offering a SVT Focus now? It seems as if they might be phasing SVT out. For soemone like myself who perfers foreign cars, I like to race the SVT's for competition.
