Ford may still sell Volvo and Mercury
After Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover the automotive industry is waiting to hear word on when Ford will sell Volvo and Mercury. Although Mulally has denied reports of the Volvo and Mercury being on the auction block, Ford may still sell the two brands.

Jerry York, a former auto executive who now represents Kirk Kerkorian’s Tracinda Corp, met with FoMoCo CEO last month. Interestingly enough a press release was released yesterday stating that Kerkorian plans on acquiring 20 million shares of Ford.

York says that he ‘thinks’ Mulally will end up...

Selling Mercury?
Huh?

I can't in a million years see Mercury getting sold. I could see it being eliminated, but not sold. Every Mercury is just a jazzed up Ford.

Yea it's really stupid. They're selling a brand with no cache that has no model line up to back it up with.

The Mecury re-badge should have died with Oldsmobile.

True, Ford probably will sell Volvo. The WSJ already has reported that that will probably happen within the next 18 months.

It is idiotic, however, to say that Ford would 'sell' Mercury? Who would buy it? And frankly who would want to buy it? It has zero brand equity. Their cars are all re-badged Fords. All Mercury dealerships are dualed with Lincoln, or in some cases Ford. And then if it were actually for sale, the buyer would have to assume product liability, warranty expenses and keep parts available for the next 10+ years, as is law.

No, Mercury will probably be shuttered. It is about damn time!

That's the truth. I think the only reason for Mercury to be around is to give Lincoln Dealers something else to sell and service, since their lineup is so week.

Keep Mercury if it means keeping that gorgeous brunette who's in the commercials.

This is so funny. What auto company in their right mind would buy Mercury? It's such a pathetic brand! Without Ford, there is no Mercury. Too funny!
