Ford prepping new Capri coupe
The ascendancy of the coupe and the hatchback on the strength of fuel economy concerns and record oil prices has brought with it a rumor of the rebirth of the Ford Capri (classic version pictured).

Already Volkswagen has revived a long-dormant Scirocco, and with the upcoming Frankfurt show in early 2009, the Capri’s 40th anniversary will bring an all-new concept.

I like it, although it wouldn't replace my civic unless it had 4 doors and was comparable in fuel consumption. If it came with a 4 door and was good on gas it may save Ford.

Ford seems to be grasping at straws. First it was the resurrection of the dreaded Taurus name and now a 4-cylinder Capri. Even though Ford sold a lot of Tauruses over the years, too many owners will remember the car as basically an el cheapo piece of crap. Ford's mistake was to launch the 500 with anemic engines and silly power train configurations. The 500 should have been a success but for these mistakes.

The original Capri was sold in North America as a European performance model and now they want to sell it with an anemic engine. A Capri coupe has to have at least 250 h.p. and fully independent suspension all around to make it and I don't see Ford producing any powerful 4-bangers in this instance.

A Capri eh?...the only Ford I ever owned and the last!!...purchased one of the originals back in the seventies only to watch the thing quickly disintegrate!!...rust quickly set in, door hinge problems (had to eventually lift the door to close it!), constant mechanical repairs and oh yes, let's not forget the time I was driving through a rainstorm only to watch in horror as both windshield wiper arms literally 'flew off' one after the other!!...another one of Ford's 'better idea's'?

Ford has run out of ideas. It a C30!
What a joke, 5cyl turbo, no way, like the C30 maybe.
At least the C30 is a better looking car.
Ford just wants to kill Volvo and steal there ideas.
I feel sorry for Volvo, can't a real company by them and do the right thing. Let Volvo be Volvo.
FORD SUCKS!
