Ford's EcoBoost models will have a premium of $700
FoMoCo’s much-touted EcoBoost system will go on sale next year and will be available on the Lincoln MKS sedan and Ford Flex crossover. FoMoCo says that it will charge a premium of around $700 when the engine is available in 2009.

The 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine produces a total of 340-hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. Ford says that EcoBoost technology, which combines turbocharging and direct-injection allows for a 20 percent better fuel-economy and the performance of a V8. FoMoCo is hoping that it can soon replace V8s with V6s and V6s with 4-cylinder turbo engines.

Ford announced earlier this year the the V6 EcoBoost can save you...

My wives Fusion would certainly benefit from a turbo-charger.

One thing I wish this site had is the ability to edit your posts. It would be nice to go back and fix stupid grammatical mistakes like other sites allow.

Turbocharging is too complicated for Ford to do right.
I can smell the engine fires and recalls already.

The Mazdaspeed 3 is a pretty impressive turbo motor. Sure they will be sharing technology.

Ford Europe's turbo 4 cylinders will match any other competing turbo 4 in the world. Quit being biased about something you have no clue about.

EcoBoost is pretty much what Audi/BMW have been using for some time already. The 340 3.5 should be a nice engine, but I don't expect it to get any better fuel economy than regular (but less powerful) V6s. Still, it's nice to see Ford using top of the line technology.

well Ford has used turbos in the past as well, just not recently, like in the old cosworth escort, or the svo mustang and a few others i just dont know by memory..the falcon had a turbo model as well. much the way GM actually has some famous turbos like the grand national, typhoon, and the cycloon to name a few...the fuel economy thing is what im curious to see the current MKS really doesnt get that great of epa ratings at 17 24 thats only 2mpg in the city higher than alot of high powered V8 cars.......i can only imagine a twin turbo 340hp variant will be lower and most V8 sedans out there are getting 15 23-25....so unless the ecoboost engine is getting better epa ratings than the V6 its based on, or exactly the same I dont really see what the point of just not sticking a V8 in it other than marketing

Yes, Audi has had a DI turbo for a while now. BMW has had it for two years.

I was at Detroit when Ford announced its all new Eco-Boost technology. For some strange reason this thought popped into my head...Isn't that exactly what the Europeans have been doing for years, putting turbochargers on smaller size engines??? Well done Ford U.S. now you've finally woken up maybe we'll see some interesting cars coming from you...How about the Focus RS, that would be a good start!
