Ford’s engine supplier halts production at diesel plant
International Truck and Engine Corp. today idled production at its diesel engine plant in Indianapolis. According to company spokesman Roy Wiley, the engine supplier temporarily closed the plant until July 16th as production shutdown at FoMoCo’s truck plant.
Ford recently announced more cuts this week for 2008 fiscal year, saying it will be producing less trucks and focusing more on cars and crossovers.

Talk about a monopoly. The big Oil guys and big auto are blocking Diesels at a time when America desperately cries out for them.
So much for the American consumer anymore. They will tell us what we can have, not what we want.

Electric motors will be way better, Diesels are too expensive and heavy.

Are you saying they should replace all Diesels with electric engines?

Name the advantages of extra weight and cost of diesel, as you know electric motors produce max torque at all rpm, More than diesel! Check out what PML is doing and then come back to de boost me! LOL And I love big 4x4 trucks, I even own a handful of guns! Ok I wouldn't be intrested in anything hybrid today, ALL THE AUTO MANUFACTURERS CAN'T PRODUCE ANYTHING WORTHY IN ELECTRICAL!!! Although PLM has shown the future! They also have military grade that would be great for 4x4s!

Yeah but the limited range especially with a workload would limit it. You are right about the torque but how far do you think and 18 wheeler would make it if it were electric, especially climbing steep grades. Of course regenerative braking could help charge during steep downhill grades.

electrical probles are the most costly to troubleshoot and fix. the electric car works great for the showroom. Once exposed to extreme cold and heat, it is a costly problem years down the road.

Great post! I have to admit it is really sad to see what has happened to Ford of all companies. I mean, they used to be an American icon and now they are but a mere shell of what they once were. When you take into consideration that the F150 accounted for nearly 25% of their total sales (per http://www.forddieseltrucks.net) the issue is magnified. Now, we are in a situation where they can't even move what they have on the lot and for that matter, good luck trying to trade in a F150 or any other truck/SUV these days. You are looking at 1/2 KBB :( Sad times to come, sad times indeed!
