Forget about turbo lag! Bmw fills patent for an exhaust manifold to reduce it!

I owned a mazdaspeed6 for 3 years and let me tell you that there was turbo lag. Speed3 are worse, they have lag + torque steer.

yeah, you're right, no other manufacturers ever have used twin turbos on a "big" V8. BMW invented it, they were the first ever, long live BMW. Except of course for the fact that plenty of manufacturers have put turbos on big engines, including V8's (and V10's and V12's), and that 4.4L is not a "big" V8. Aside from those lapses in logic that make what you said totally false, you are totally correct.

There needs to be an IQ test on this site prior to be allowed to post, or some kind of "obvious troll test".

There are only two cars I have personally driven that don't have any noticeable turbo lag: the 335i and the S600.

MSP6, Your absolutely right. Me and my buddy switch up cars every now and than. I remember when his car was stock turbo set up (speed 3) and my car was aftermarket turbo (rx8) we would always compare how his car has that annoying turbo lag,but the torque steer sucked. My 8 would spool up from way down low,due to the computer and i basically have everything i can minus internals. He soon upgraded some parts like intake,exhaust cobb ecu etc and the turbo lag was still there but it helped a lot.The torque steer is worse now with the extra power he has,but he was telling me something about bushings that'll help it.

The torque steer issue was not present in the speed6 thanks to the AWD. But that car was sooo heavy, especially in the front.

An AWD speed3 would have been the best of both worlds.

That being said, glad that BMW did not knock at Mazda's door to get some advice on turbo usage, as our friend Whore was suggesting.

Audi RS4 previously used a biturbo V6. The RS6 was a biturbo V8 before the current generation biturbo v10... 2 recent cars that come to mind.

What rock have you been living under Badgewhore?

EHm C5 RS6 = Twin Turbo V8
C6 RS6 = tt v10

s600 = tt v12

oh and not to mention the Ferrari F40 TT V8 = arguably one of the best Ferrari's EVER built.

P.S. There will be turbo lag in ANY Turbo Application, it's just a matter of pure physics. The turbo has to spool which uses waste exhaust which takes time to travel from the exhaust manifold to the spool, whether perceivable or not, it still exists. All a manufacturer can do is minimize it.

MSP6

When you drive a certain car long enough, you'll start to notice little stuff that ain't a big deal before (like a slight turbo lag). Even those awesome normally aspirated Honda engines began to feel unresponsive.

All the cars I've ever own before were pure 2 seater sportscars(modified and unmodified), not these wannabe sportcoupe(RSX-s/celicas gts/3series coupe) or sedans(MSP6/M5). They all felt soft slow to respond and tons of body rolls, especially the MSP6. Eventually all my sportscars started feeling soft and normal too. The intimate sportscar seating position and punishing ride became normal, all the admiring stares I was getting on a daily basis also became normal until I started driving normal cars like my 5series, then I realize how good I've had it before. Now people stare at me like I'm rich, my 5er drives no better than a new accord, it's just better isolated and structurally tighter.

The point is, the 4.4L BMW V8 didn't need a complex turbo system to be competitive. When a turbo is added to a V8 for SUV purpose, it's going to suck just as much gas as a larger displacement V8. Since they ain't good enough to do turbo right, they run into turbo lag issues. Where's the advantage?

You're right, BMW didn't need to knock on Mazdas door, but they didn't need to, they already have a speed3 to do reverse engineer on.

BTW, torque steer is fun, don't know why all these softies are complaining. Who told them to floor the gas pedals in the middle of a turn or at a stoplight? Learn to drive or something.

Torque steer is why speed3 is fun, not much grip in the 1st 3 gears, but a ton of fun. Speed6 is decently fast like a GS400 but boring and has a lot of body roll and a harsh ride. GS400 actually has better steering response and feedback, don't know what all this zoom zoom is all about. Old Celicas from the 90s still have better and more accurate steering. Maybe Mazda should've put the steering from the speed3 into the msp6?

Torque steer is fun? haha, I'm just happy GM designed my fwd Grand Prix to have no torque steer.

Torque steer is fun, doesn't get you into trouble. Too much traction gets you into trouble with the law. FWD torque steer won't make you crash into somebodies house the way these whinoes would like to have us all believe.

You are the first person I have ever heard say anything about torque steer causing accidents. No the not fun thing about torque steer is that you are always fighting the car. Would it be fun if a car had a seat that slides back and forth? Where every time you step on the gas you have to pull yourself forwards on the steering wheel? It is exactly the same concept. And if you think otherwise... well you're special and easily amused.

And you still can't write patent properly -one t only- plus patent certificate is redundant because the first certifies that you own the invention or whatever, which of course you already knew because you have 2 of them...
