Forget the RS4, Audi S5 defeats BMW M3!
Autobild tests the BMW M3 and the Audi S5. Many people don't really know the reason why Audi decides to build "S" cars and "RS" cars when all other premium manufacturers have a regular lineup of cars and then a single high-performance unit such as BMW M or Mercedes AMG. Instead, Audi has two high-performance versions with the S and RS lineup.
Recently, the Audi RS models have clearly stepped up their game with many publication rating the RS4 as being better than the BMW M3 and the R8 has been hailed victor against the iconic Porsche 911 in many recent comparisons done by acclaimed publications.
I don't believe Audi built the S5 with the intent of challenging the BMW M3. With a likely $10K price difference and nearly 70 horsepower difference the Audi S5 is supposed to compete with the BMW 335i. However, the S5 is $10K more expensive at msrp than the 335i.
Well autobild's verdict is the Audi S5 has defeated the BMW M3. It sure looks like Audi has taken a page out of BMWs driving dynamics bible and placed some magic into their own high-performance cars.
Congraulations to Audi and the auto community eagerly anticipates what will happen when the Audi subsidiary, Quattro Gmbh, waives its magic wand over the S5 and creates the RS5. If history is anything to go by, with Quattro Gmbh's magic already worked on the S4 when it created the RS4, the RS5 will be an absolutely thrilling car to drive every time.

Are you sure about this? Because this is the result of the Autobild article as i could find it:
"The BMW M3, powered by the sportiest V8 from Germany, slighty lays in front when compared to the Audi S5 even though it costs a few ten thousands of Euros more. It slighty beats the S5 in performance and is more a true supersports car than the Audi which is also pretty much impressive and giving a glimpse at Audi´s future. The average drivers won´t feel the difference, it takes an experienced driver to take the M3 to its higher limits, it is the better track car but also enjoyfable for the daily driver, you will buy and drive it with your heart, the S5 is more for the brain"

How many 335i and S5 owners would be taking their cars to the track? It's the street that really matters. That is where the S5 excels.

Yes but does that justify the price of the Audi over the BMW? I dont think so. You can tune the 335i easily and it will beat the S5 anywhere!

Yes, the article clearly states that the reviewer prefers the M3, but just by a little.

it'd be surprising for the M3 to lose a comparison to the S5 when pretty much every comparison test has put the 335i Coupe in front of the S5.

Really? Since when? Because it's definitely not that way at all. If anything, the S5 has beaten the 335i more, but I'd say it's pretty evenly split.

german nut you are an idiot. This article is based on factory specs and not actual test numbers. Basically, they went on a little test drive and gave their opinions of the car. 0 to 62 in 4.9 secs is what BMW states in their brochuere. the 335 coupe has been actually tested in the 4.8 to 4.9 second range ... Same thing goes with the S5, which has been tested quicker. German nut =idiot

title should read: Forget the M3, the 335i defeats the RS4. The RS4 was outlapped by the 335 in Car & Drivers lightening lap article on a track in Virginia.
Also, Fifth Gear ran the 335i against the S5 and the 335i was quicker around the track.
I really doubt the M3 would do WORSE than the 335.

I don't understand how someone could claim to buy an BMW 335i yet post the same thing audi post over and over again? How can you post weekly articles and go give BMW a check? I post opinions on Autospies sometimes and there is no chance Audi will get a dime of my money. what impact does this German car magazine have on someone buying an M3, especially in the US where most of these cars are sold. The S5 is very nice it should be successful. Everyday an audi comparison don't you know the differences.

Didn't you saw the video that was posted here last week with the Audi S5 and BMW 335 Series? The BMW 335 Series beat the Audi S5 through the track.
Do a search on this website, it was posted last week.

Normally this thread would go on and on and on because of the Audi Vs. BMW infighting. Peak horsepower, bla bla bla. But BMW is clearly showing Audi a thing or two about weight, balance and RWD pinache! Love it.
