Lexus isn't in it for the fuel-saving segment, they are in it for the PERFORMANCE-Hybrid segment. They could easily slap on a Lexus Hybrid Drive motor to the ES350 and get 44mpg, but they'd rather strap it onto the GS and LS and make them rockets.

The only reason I bought a Lexus IS is because I can keep it longer than 7 yrs. It drives great, BUT probably not as well as the BMW 3 or MBenz C. You cannot possibly keep a German car past the extended warranty.
