Future BMW SAV's revealed and one is a hybrid?
Here is what Automobile Magazine is reporting...
"Upcoming engines-A hybrid drivetrain developed with General Motors and Daimler Chrysler, a turbocharged V-8 good for more than 400hp, and a 300-hp, state of the art twin-turbo diesel. Not to mention the X6 four seat coupe starting in early 2008."
Can't wait to drive the diesel!

Ummmm...nope. I literally meant good ol fashioned used Canola oil from the back of your local greasy spoon.
Insinuating that if Lexus jumped on that hippie bandwagon and "revolutionized" running a V8 on old fried chicken grease whether you would still choose the Lexus over the alternative?
Pains me to have to flesh that beauty of a friendly joke out. :)

lexus do make diesels, the IS220d. and it is one unrefined motor, bmw's and audi's are better.
but hybrid X5 or RX diesel? well, i'd have to say, living in a city, a hybrid X5. now if i had a long commute on motorways, diesel RX.

BMW didn't design that, that's an artists rendering trying to guess what BMW is doing. No one has any idea what the X6 is going to look like except the folks working on it. Hopefully it looks nothing like that and looks more like the stretched four door 6-series CGIs that have been floating around for over a year. Those looked pretty sweet.

That's sad, I've garnered more comments among the BMW sheep than BMW has in this forum.
It might have something to do with Europe's substandard education system. 27% have post secondary in France, 41% in Denmark and 51% for Canada. Research is practically non-existent in Germany.
How funny, 51 of the top 100 Universities globally are American. Canada almost equals Germany and they're 2.5x larger than us.
Top countries are U.S., England, Japan, Canada. Switzerland is best at 21st (Germany is 45th). See what I mean when I say the U.K. isn't really European. They have more in common with other English speaking nations who make up atleast 2/3 of the list(Australia did quite well also, same # as Canada).
I'll stop gloating though, don't want the Europeans to cry when they realize how pathetic their continent is.

Rupert,
Not directed at the British, but the truth sucks doesn't it? Europe isn't as high and mighty as they like to think?
matt635,
But your research in other fields are still strong.
A good reason why German cars are going crappy is more than likely directly related to the level of education its engineers have (look at all the new technologies from Japan and N.America vs all the cars with more pistons and dirtier fuel from Europe). American cars are better than European ones now, in power and reliability.
MDalle,
I suppose all that welfare is free? Gotta love your taxes over there (to think I thought Canada's was high)http://www.skm.dk/foreign/english/2177.html
Canada's income tax is roughly 40% overall.
As well, we're 4.5x your size and our national debt is only $80 billion higher (25% more).
Try reading what that poverty line definition means, it even says our numbers are inflated. Unlike your welfare state, we expect some form of productivity from our citizens even when they get welfare. The U.S. is all about competition, you make it or you don't. They tax the least as they expect each citizen to take care of themselves (which is actually part of their history thanks to King George #3, eh Rupert).
btw, the U.S. national debt is only 3-4x larger than France/Germany's but its economy is 5x larger. You guys spend way too much time sitting around telling one another how great you are.

huu76,
I have a strong feeling your comments linking the quality of European car engineering to their education is more a result of your strong anti-European prejudice, rather than any factual evidence that the technology and engineering aspects of European vehicles are below Japanese and American standards.
For one, I always believed that while you don't really know much about cars in general, you did have an intelligent world view and so some respect could be thrown your way. Now however, I see that your unfounded prejudice has somewhat tainted your credibility.
Maybe you have this strange view that while the Japanese are working away in laboratories with white coats, refining the next generation of Lexus cars, the Europeans are sitting outside smoking and playing darts, hoping to finish testing their new engine sometime next week.
I can assure you the engineering and development processes for European-manufactured cars is very very high, and to speculate otherwise is plain ignorant.
I don't know how much ground clearance your Jeep has, but it seems that you have a 'higher than thou' attitude.

The facts speak for themselves. As I said, hearing the truth hurts sometimes. Education, economics, even Kyoto have proven the Europeans wrong (they can't even do what they promised).
Prejudice? I don't think so. Bias, yes. When Japan and the U.S. create a crappy car, I'll say it. Hell, I hate the SC and the FJ Cruiser and I've said it before. Try listening sometime.
I had respect for the last generation of BMW's because they looked good eventhough only the M3 and M5 had the numbers. The current crop look terrible and the numbers aren't what they once were.
Have you not noticed that the cars coming out of Japan have matched and bettered everything from Europe (minus Ferrari and Lambo). U.S. cars still outmatch German ones in numbers and they're better built now.
So yes, everyone's doing research while Europe sits on their laurels talking about handling and badges and how great diesels are if you can just hide all their pollution.
When the Germans bring a car out like the last M3, then you'll hear me commend them. I said last summer, the X5 was the last good BMW.
I'm sure I know more about the industry than you do.

Lexus better than the germans, don't make me laugh.
The Lexuses we have here are the IS220d, and that's pretty much it.

All unique cars, not 5 variations on the same BMW. (If the IS-F even just matches its claim, you can add 3 cars to this group from Toyota in the next couple of years).
All supercar numbers w/o the supercar prices. The Evo VIII is actually faster than a Porsche 911 GT3. The Saleen S7 matches the mighty Veyron (remember that bad boy?). The S7 TT is even faster.

You're all just annoyed because you weren't expecting proof that N.American and Japanese cars are better.
I guess the Bentley is a "supercar" then. The Maybach is pretty expensive, it must be one too. The last NSX was only $10K less than the current Porsche GT3. Hmmm, poor, poor Porsche (no longer a super car, probably why I like them).
btw, the S7 TT costs $555,000 USD and it only needs 8 cylinders to do 0-60 in 2.8, faster than an Enzo. NO fancy name, but it gets the job done.
If Europe keeps thinking "if we say it, it makes it true", then they'll continue to come up short. LOL

Civilized world? Do you mean like Spain running home from Iraq with their tails tucked between their legs thinking it'd make them safe from the ETA. It's unfortunate they had to be proven wrong.
Or like in Afghanistan where the U.S. and Canada are fighting to protect the civilized world while the French and German "GOV'TS" order their troops to hide in the back to guard the croissants? (not knocking the soldiers as anyone willing to do it deserves respect)
Or civilized like in Darfur where the U.S. offers peacekeeping troops but the "civilized" Europeans and their Arab allies turn it down because it might offend the Muslim vote?

I also believe that your dislike for BMW design has somehow made you think that all European cars are bad.
Seeing as you love American cars so much, here a few words that might make you all jolly and patriotic:
Push-rod, 4-speed Auto, leaf-springs, cast-iron, cup-holders, plastic, retro, 18mpg, backwards, desperate, falling market share, a world-renowned motoring journalist dedicating a whole story on Why American Cars Are Bad, roll-overs, lack of product development...etc.

MDalle,
Tried to sneak one by me did you?
Canada's 40% tax rate is before any form of tax deduction and loophole. Rich or poor, the tax spread between both countries is still around 25%.
Yes, I do know more about the industry, mostly from my friend who's in it. BMW takes a month to retool a factory, my friend can do an entire model line for Honda in one weekend. He has tons of insider info, which I routinely cite here.
Sanyo Machine Works is his company, they specialize in manufacturing robotic and automation. Look it up.
Gogo,
LOL, it's funny that you need to resort to childish antics. I hear something, is that you stamping your feet too? Education requires more than naming off capital cities.
http://www.autoblog.com/2006/01/31/psa-peugeot-citroen-unveils-diesel-hybrid-technology/
Accept the fact hybrids (tax credit or not) will prevent diesels from ever taking off outside Europe, rightly so too. They're the best solution before hydrogen.
Matthew,
Porsches are good (except the Boxster and Cayenne design wise).
Last C-class was nice.
See my previous post.
But anyway, rather than complaing about the truth brought before it, Europe should try bettering itself.
Germany can atleast brag they're the smartest Europeans on average.

Last point. You help your weak get a job? We help our weak retrain for a new one, no freebies here. That's why they become more productive because they become more competitive. What's so productive about showing up to a gov't guaranteed job?
btw, I actually like the U.S. system of foodstamps, it guarantees (nothing's perfect) that the benefits they get will be used for necessities.
You guys have a long way to go before you catch Japan, they're unemployment is 4% and that's historically crappy (1.5% is normal for them), and they're all real jobs, not gov't welfare jobs.
