Future Models Indicate a Growing Demand for Crossover MPVs and SUVs; BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and GM all planning such vehicles by 2009
Notable models include Audi's huge range expansion, BMW's decision to make the X4 (a compact coupe SUV) the V3 (a small MPV to rival the B-class) and V5 (R-class rival) and V7 (a true monster, even bigger than the V5), a possible M-class Pick-up and a CLS 65 amg with 612 bhp, the new Bentley Arnage, which is rumoured to feature a 700bhp W16 from none other than the Bugatti Veyron and a new entry level Ferrari, possibly called the Dino.

Specifically for the UK and European market, GM is launching a major product offensive, with Cadillac launching a CTS coupe, a convertible BLS (called the BLC), BRX and CRX crossover SUVs (BRX again spawning from the BLS, CRX to fit below SRX) and Saab launching Saab versions of most of the Cadillac vehicles above.
Lancia is also making a comeback, and Nissan's Infiniti brand is due to arrive on UK shores

The American market is also due to receive Citroens and Peugeots, in the form of the new C5 and 407, and the BMW X6 (CLS-similar) is to be built in South Carolina.
Ford is rumoured to be producing a new Bronco (to rival the Wrangler), and Hummer is to produce the H4 (again to compete with the Wrangler).
Honda's famous NSX will return in 2008/9, with a Ferrari quashing V-10. A hybrid Cr-v is also on the cards, as is a Civic cabriolet, although this is likely to be US market only.
Volkswagen is rumoured to be producing a "CLS" type vehicle, and it is possible that RWD will be available, and on the Audi equivalent (A7)

By 2009 we'll be seeing a lot more cars, and a lot more hybrids. Audi, Mercedes and BMW will all be launching hybrid versions on their larger cars, (the Q7 and S class), and when the next generation 7 series arrives, it too might have a hybrid

Confusing.

How can SAAB base their cars off other cars which are based on SAAB's anyway?

The BLS/BLC is just a SAAB 9-3 with new clothes, and seeing as the BLX is BLS based.....

That would mean the BLX would have a very colourful family tree.

A possible GM blurb for a new SAAB CUV?

"The new SAAB 9-6X. It started life as an Opel Vectra, before undergoing extensive re-development and morphing into the SAAB 9-3. It was then turned into a Cadillac BLS, before undergoing plastic surgery to give birth to the BRX. At this point SAAB did some redevelopment work, creating the ALL NEW 9-6X.

The SAAB 9-6X. The all new crossover from Sweden"

well.....gm are trying.
failing, but trying.
and there will be a 9-4X (9-3 based) and 9-7X (caddy crx based, thus chevvy equinox).
9-6X has been cancelled.
i should add that 2007 and 2008 are the best years for seeing what's coming.
click the links on the page to see.
2009 is a good year for next generation cars of today (ie next Z4, will have a folding hard-top) but there isn't too much we don't know in that year. (it's fairly obvious there will be a next gen e class)

Wasn't "CRX" the name of a small Honda coupe that was popular with tuners?
And now Caddy is taking the name!

I recall just reading that Honda has finalized that they are putting a V8 into their new NSX so it can be shared with other vehicles, such as the RL and other large hondas, rather than the more niche and specialized V10 option...

exactly.

bmw can't wait to get it's hands on the r class's market, but has decided to expand into 2 "new" markets.
a monster v7, bigger than an r class?
now that is designed for america.
doubt they'll sell in europe.

one thing, this report does indicate that suvs are going down slightly, there is now lots of expansion in to multi activity vehicles (a 4x4 mpv that handles), less into suvs.
