Future Tuner: 2009 Hyundai Tiburon
There has been a lot of talk from the Hyundai camp lately about the new Genesis sedan. From around the globe we can hear the executives in Korea singing its praises: "It will move us up market! It has a 380-horsepower V-8! It's got rear-wheel drive!" Those things are all well and good, but what we're excited about more than the big sedan is the soon-to-follow little brother coupe.

Currently the details are sparse, but that won't stop us from dubbing the new Tiburon the Next Big Thing for tuners everywhere. This car is such a big step over the old Tib that Hyundai is considering dropping the name to distinguish it. We've heard that both Tuscani - as the Tiburon is known throughout the rest of the world - and Genesis Coupe are being considered.

Why is the new Tiburon such a big deal? Like the best tuner cars, it has rear-wheel drive, a powerful engine, and (most importantly) a low price. Starting in the low twenty thousands, the coupe will come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with horsepower in the low two hundreds. There will also be a 300-horsepower V-6 available, also mated to a six-speed manual transmission. We're predicting that the turbo-four will be the way to go.

All stupid flaming aside, the new Hyundai RWD Coupe will be a nice car, money considered.

I still don't understand why your identity is "Hyundai" if you're not really a Hyundai fan?

domestic u.s. fans used to comment that rising hyundai sales would nibble away at japan's market share. in fact, the japanese makers continued to increase market share. it was THE DOMESTICS who were being nibbled away at.

i almost think the same will happen to the germans, especially vw! they are BARELY able to keep ahead of the japanese wolves snarling at their heels. now even hungrier hyundai has joined the chase, with cheap 300+ hp cars.

What "germans?" It only IS VW. They're the only super-mass-market German car company right now. What makes you think Hyundai and Kia will threaten Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW? Because if they did, they'd have to go through Lexus and Infiniti first.

They'd have to go through Lexus, Infiniti and Acura first. ;-)

isn't PERFORMANCE the main appeal for buying german sport sedans and coupes?

what performance oriented buyer will pass up the chance to get a v8 coupe at 6-cylinder prices? and if a substantial no. of buyers are tuners, the Magic Feel would mean NOTHING to them. they can tune the suspension on this Tiburon to equal or better any german car.

granted, the g37 may lose some sales too.
