G8 Wagon - Pontiac could get version of Holden Sportwagon
Pontiac seems almost certain to get a G8 version of the forthcoming Holden VE Commodore Sportwagon, a pre-production concept of which was unveiled this week at the 2007 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.

The new Commodore wagon, said to roll on the same wheelbase as the sedan, is a much sportier-looking vehicle than the car it replaces. GM sources hint a G8 version would be positioned as a "sport wagon," along the lines of BMW's 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Powertrains will be identical to the G8 sedan. That means an entry-level version with the 261-horse, 3.6-liter V-6 and a five-speed auto, and a GT model with a 361-horse, 6.0-liter V-8 with a six-speed automatic. A six-speed manual also will reportedly be available.

I would like to see some numbers before I praise this sharp looking car. As far as I can see it looks good and sporty! The question is can it compete with the Camry or the Accord with fuel mielage? The Japanese cars have slightly more hp. We will see.

Camry and Accord don't come in wagons. And neither make 300hp. This car should rock. I'd like to see the numbers on how it stacks up against the European Estates.

Accord/Camry... WHAT?

This would be a most direct competitor to the Dodge Magnum... if anything!

The good thing is that it doesn't look like some Ghetto Hearse, and has a certain elegance about it.

Chevys V-6 isn't as competitive with The Camry's and Accord's V-6. both have more hp in there v-6's . Chevys V-8 has more HP and torque obiously.

The 6 cylinder G8 will be roughly as peppy as it's Honda and Toyota competitors and will get similar MPG. It's Japanese competitors are not that fast and don't get that great of MPG. Only Honda's 190hp 4 cyl Acord (preferably with manual, if available) will be a standout for reasonable performance and good MPG. Inversely, the G8 GT (V8) will be the performance standout.

This car will not compete with the Accord or Camry, Pontiac has the G6 for that. This car will be bigger. I'm sure speed will not be a problem, what i'm skeptical about is the handling and the interior quality.

Very cool, but sadly...

Most American buyers just wouldn't understand.

Note: Though it would be nice to see the Magnum have a bit of competition.

The designers have given this wagon a very nice silhouette. Unfortunately, the front end, like every GM car in my opinion, is extremely generic and uninspired. I'm rooting for GM and have to give them credit for stepping up their game in many areas. Interiors and performance have improved and the exterior design is moving in the right direction.

It left with Bill and Ted in Bogus Journey.

Thats why they are called Estates over in the UK. Or Brakes in the land of the frog.

I'll like the term sports waggon for the US. Because these are not the old wood panel boats we used to own (any person here over 30 has had to drive one of these things...it was mandatory your parents had to have one in the 70's and early 80's).
