GM Can't Keep up With 2010 Camaro Demand, Models Being Sold For $500 Over MSRP

Well Armageddon hasn't happened in the land of GM.

As matter of record, just the opposite.

General Motors, which is hoping to come out of bankruptcy by August, is struggling to keep up with the demand for the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. According to GM spokesman Terry Rhadigam, the automaker has filled about half of the 25,000 2010 Camaro orders taken.


GM began producing the 2010 Camaro in March and sold a total of 5,463 units in May.
According to a report form Kelley Blue Book, the 2010 Camaro is being sold with no incentives with prices starting at $22,995 for the V6 model and $30,995 for the V8 Camaro SS.
“It is actually commanding a premium right now, as it is selling slightly above MSRP,” said Kelley Blue Book spokeswoman Joanna McNally. “Camaros are currently selling for nearly $500 above MSRP.

It's good to see the Camero enjoying success but something like this is difficult to sustain and that is going to be the real challenge. They'll have to keep the car fresh and offer multiple variants as Ford as done with the Mustang.

Yes all the variants of the Mustang are essentially the same with a supercharger, bodykit, paint job, slight interior changes, and an excessive amount of signatures/logo from the company.

Fact is that the Camaro has rarely kept up with Mustang sales. It may be selling like gang busters now but can they sustain that is the question. The car is a novelty now but what about when they start showing up all over the pace?

This is going to be a good success story for GM, even though it took them nearly 3 years to get it completed after its debut in the first Transformers movie.

However, I have driven both a manual Camaro SS and the new 2010 Mustang, and I must honestly say I had more fun in the 'Stang. For having 400+ hp and torque, it did not fly around like I felt it should. The Mustang felt lighter (it is), with a stronger engine and exhaust note. Not to mention the interior seemed to have better quality materials too.

But here's the shocker, the 2010 Mustang GT I test drove had a sticker of $37,140! R U F'CKIN KIDDING ME?!?!
