GM Plans To Export China-Built Vehicles To The U.S.

General Motors is considering selling vehicles it makes in China in the U.

S. by 2011 - making it the first major automaker to import Chinese produced cars to the stateside. In document being circulated between GM and U.S. lawmakers, GM said that it plans on selling 17,335 units of China-made vehicles in the U.S. by 2011. It is looking to triple that number to 51,546 by 2014, reports Automotive News.
Of course this is expected to stir up some controversy among GM’s U.S. workers. GM said that the plans are subject to change depending on the outcome of the negotiations with the UAW.
The Detroit automaker said many of the vehicles will be similar in size to the upcoming Chevrolet Spark, which will be built in South Korea.

I really like this move GM is making, it would force the employee's (UAW) to work for competitive wages and keep all the specialty jobs which require precision in America. Thus motivating American's to get educated in order to get a job in the first place.

the park avenue looks great. how stupid is it that china gets it and the united states doesn't?

gm needs the park ave; whether it a buick or chevy grille on the front doesn't matter. they also need the chevy lumina (as seen in the mid east), but with a better name.

This has always been GM's plan. To build cars in Mexico and China for sale in the USA. They were going to take a longer period to transition, but the global recession and collapse in US auto sales sped up their plans. Now they can cut themselves off from the UAW and take advantage of "LOW" wages in the developing world.

Yawn...no surprise there. If not Mexico, then Korea, if not Korea, then China, if not China, whoever else is offering slave labour. Atleast GM is still owned by a bunch of white-is-right fellas, not like big bad Toyota and all the factories they're infecting North America with. Thank God 'CHANGE' has arrived and Americans have a cool black guy to sell them out instead of the boring old white guy.

A few years back, Chrysler built a brand spanking new 300 plant there with excess capacity. Hmmm, I wonder whatever it could be for (cough, cough, Brampton, cough).

Can't wait to see how GM and President Jesus spin this in their advertising. "Vote for me and I'll keep dirty factory jobs away from our shores!"
