General Motors product chief Mark Reuss is leading a team of five executives responsible for determining whether and when to recall vehicles, according to an analyst report.

The appointment comes as GM is reshaping the way it handles vehicle defects, communicates with customers and reports problems to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“Reuss will be leading a team of five, who will make decisions on all recalls going forward,” Barclays analyst Brian Johnson said in a research note. “Management is taking a much more proactive approach on issuing recalls.”

Barclays analysts met Wednesday with Reuss and GM Chief Financial Officer Chuck Stevens.
