GM Tahoe and Yukon hybrid SUVs fuel rating match Toyota Camry’s
Originally, when the GMC Yukon Hybrid and the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid made their debut, GM said they expect a 25 percent improvement in fuel-economy than their standard versions. GM then said that it expects the hybrid SUVs to get 40 percent better fuel-economy giving them both 19 or 20 miles to the gallon.

Well now, GM is saying that the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon Hybrid SUVs will deliver fuel economy gains of 50 percent over their non-hybrid models...

Agreed. With a newer UAW contract which will free up billions of dollars in the coming years and an excellent array of hybrid and alternative fuel options, GM (with solid marketing) should be able to properly compete with Toyota.

I've been interested in the 2-mode transmission and can't wait to see real-world fuel consumption figures. It would be nice to know if GM was developing a 2-mode system for it's large and mid-size vehicles (Impala, Outlook, Vue, etc.)

Two mode tranny....just means it'll be twice as complicated and expensive to diagnose and fix.

And tomorrow they'll say, no its 60% better. So the lies keep coming on and on. lol

This is really funny, 25%, then 40% and now 50%.

GM never made such conmplicated claims.
that egmcartech web site can't read.

GM said
25% improvement combined.
40% improvement city.

you're confusing GM with toyota. toyota is the marketing hype company. it's an accomplishment when GM gets cars like this produced...good marketing would be too much to ask for!

The 3.5-liter 268 hp Toyota Camry gets 24 mpg combined.

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG.do?action=browseList2&make=Toyota&model=Camry

GM is advertising 21 mpg combined for the Tahoe. Not quite.

Being Canadian I prefer L/100km because the American gallon is smaller than the old non existant Canadian gallon that is bigger and sounds better.Confusing!

Never seen a Toyota Hybrid reach their claimed hybrid MPG. Lets see how GM does.

The hybrids all reach the 2008 EPA measurements, or surpass it.
So the Tahoe hybrid's quoted 20 mpg is probably accurate.

The Lexus LS600hL gets 17-20mpg, which is below its quoted 21.

2008 EPA ratings, the new ones that were supposed to kill hybrids. City/Combined/Highway mpg, oil barrels consumed per year.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/2008selemakef.jsp?year=2008

Camry-Hybrid, 33/34/34, 10.1 barrels of oil per year.
LS600hL, 20/21/22, 16.3
E320 Bluetec, 23/26/32, 15.1
GL320 CDI, 18/20/24, 19.7
Jeep GC Diesel, 17/19/22, 20.7
You'll notice that hybrids us 25-50% less oil per year than a diesel with equivalent mileage. If you take cars with the same mileage, the gasoline will do it with a bigger displacement. Either way, diesels pollute more and increase demand for oil. Wonder why the German propaganda machine doesn't point out this "inconvenient truth"?

Even if GM has lower EPA, they'll still have a big reduction in emissions.

nobody beats toyota's propaganda machine!
but it makes sense as they spend hundreds of millions of dollars more on marketing than any other brand.

how quickly we forget that toyota spent years claiming 60MPG and nobody achieved it. in fact, most people hit low 40s if their careful.

please do the math for me. which hybrids use "25-50% less oil per year than a diesel with equivalent mileage?" oh and also get the same performance as a diesel with 400+lb ft of torque.

The overall cost of a diesel is less than a hybrid considering initial purchase price and years of service. Hybrids are weak.

Look at the 2007 models, it shows both 2007 and 2008 EPA ratings to show the change.

Even with a larger drop, the hybrids still outdo diesels.

Both models listed are 2008 EPA ratings.
2007 RX400h, 27/26/25, 13.2 barrels of oil per year.
2007 MB ML320 CDI, 19/21/24, 18.8

Both V6s, ones a little more hazardous to your health.

Real people get 36 mpg average in the Camry Hybrid.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG.do?action=browseList2&make=Toyota&model=Camry%20Hybrid
Real people get 33 mpg in the E320cdi.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG.do?action=browseList2&make=Mercedes-Benz&model=E320%20Cdi

Both are decent. But the E320cdi costs double to buy.

That´s the best eco SUV! Forget the japanese Hybrids! That`s GAS GUZZLER! The Lexus LS600h need more gas than a BMW 750i, MB500 S, VW Phaeton 4.2 and Audi A8 4.2. More than a Diesel powered car.
Note:Buy only a US car or a german car and you save the world.

enthusiast,
Do you know how to read?
Camry-hybrid uses 10 barrels vs E320 Bluetec which uses 15. Same mileage. Same 50% with RXh vs ML CDI.
LS600hL has the same mileage as the ML320CDI but it has 2 more cylinders, roughly 2 more litres, is gasoline and it still manages to use less oil. On top of it all, the LS600 is heavier as well.

Congrats, I'm sure 400lbs of torque on a sedan is good for something.

Haha, I can make stuff up too. Didn't read my link did you?
LS600hL uses 16.3 barrels with 20/21/23mpg vs S550 needing 21 and getting 14/16/21mpg.

It amazes me how brainwashed BMW/MB/Audi have made you guys. Face it, marketing is the only thing keeping the Germans alive. They even have to offer economy cars now.

Ridiculous. It doesn't matter how efficient they claim the Yukon/Tahoes will be if uneducated drivers keep smashing the loud pedal. These trucks will not come close to their trumpeted MPG because 1) they'll be driven at 70mph plus. 2) Every stoplight is an opportunity to race somebody. Hybrids are a joke. Diesel rules!!
