GM's new Volt could be a Cadillac?
Last week’s release of a chart detailing General Motors’ future production plans has also revealed an interesting tidbit of info concerning the upcoming Volt plug-in electric hybrid car. The chart lists the cars that will be manufactured at several GM plants. At its Detroit, Hamtramck and Michigan facilities, the chart states GM will build the “Buick Lucerne and Cadillac DTS continue until 2010; Global Delta MPV7 beginning in 2009; Global Delta Volt beginning in 2010; Global Epsilon Chevrolet beginning in 2012.”

What’s odd is that there’s no vehicle brand listed for the Volt.

GM should badge it as an Opel with Opel's lightning bolt logo -- I'm not joking.

Interesting, but...

The last thing GM needs in more brand clutter.

Depending on pricing, equipment, Cadillac might be appropriate, but I see this as more a vehicle fitting the Saturn division.

I think it should be a Chevy. Send the message to Toyota loud and clear.

The Aura Hybrid and Vue Hybrid have become a weak showing/flop, it's time to stop half-assing the hybrid tech and actually do something real quick, b/c by the time GM launches these models into the next decade, Toyota will well ahead into their next generation hybrid, which will cost much less then the rivals debut and that much more efficient.

I think it should be a GM vehicle serviced by Saturn dealers (due to their high customer satisfaction levels). A GM brand vehicle would cast a positive light on the whole company like the EV1 did (before they crushed them), not simply one of it's divisions.
