GM will be showing a new concept at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show next week called the GMC Denali XT Hybrid Concept, a small pickup truck that demonstrates the first combination of GM’s two-mode hybrid system and E85 ethanol-capable engine.

GM says that the Denali XT Hybrid “offers a 50-percent increase in combined fuel economy over comparable small pickup trucks when running on gasoline.”

The Denali XT Hybrid Concept has a unibody and rear-wheel-drive architecture that, for the first time, is paired with a two-mode hybrid transmission and a small block 4.9L V8 E85 capable engine that produces an estimated 326 horsepower. Estimated payload capacity comes in at 1,100 pounds with a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.

Design and construction of the Denali XT Hybrid Concept were handled by Holden Design, the Australian arm of GM’s global design and engineering network.

“Denali XT is about working hard, playing hard and enjoying an active lifestyle,” said Jim Bunnell, GMC general manager. “It is the same philosophy that has helped make the GMC Acadia crossover a huge hit with consumers.”
