GMC’s Future: New compact crossover, new Acadia in 2010, Envoy gone
In an attempt to focus on cutting down on size and keeping their cars fuel efficient GM will be concentrating more on technology such as hybrids and fuel-cells. Automotive News seems to have the entire scoop on GM’s future lineup up to 2011. We’ll bring you the updates throughout the day.

For GMC, a new compact crossover will be added for the 2011 model year. The crossover will replace the Pontiac Torrent under the Buick-Pontiac-GMC strategy where GMC will concentrate only on trucks and Pontiac on cars.

"GMC will concentrate only on trucks," as long as they are not actually trucks (Acadia, Torrent spinoff).

Anyone else notice the really funny second to last paragraph:

"GM is getting ready to launch the hybrid Yukon SUV which should be getting 19 or 20 miles to the gallon."

Sweet. Sign me up.

I think that's the first time I have ever seen the word hybrid followed by a number that starts with a '1'.

Mind you that's "claimed" mpg. Which means true mpg will be less. Of course who could blame GM, their current model Yukon only gets 15 mpg..."claimed".

Spectator try pulling your boat a prius. And yes a 25% increas in full economy is outstanding for a truck that seats 8 and can pull two toyota's

damikco...I think you missed the sarcasm in my post. And I'm not sure I follow your sarcasm. Are you saying hybirds can't pull things with your prius comment or that hybrid suv's are good at towing? If you are concerned about towing and mpg, which is where I think we are going here, then there is just one word we need to focus on here...diesel. Electric motors have tons of torque (thats what they do) however they can only handle the strain for an short amount of time, even hybrid systems running off a backup gas engine. If your towing a boat (or anything else) you needs lots of torque all the time. That's why diesels work so well.

Why produce a hybrid vehicle that costs a ton of money to develop and put into your factory lineup (if I were GM that is not a cost saving effort) when I can just place an existing diesel in the engine bay and meet all the requirments(for the same cost as a hybrid). We aren't talking about pollution here, the concern is MPG. If that is the case...for a truck, diesel is king. Specifically for towing, the 660lb/ft that the GMC diesel's produce is huge. Now if you want to hold 8 people and tow 2 toyotas...this is the way to do it.

To top it off diesel vs any other engine configuration, leads the market in holding it's price for resale.

I agree that a 25% increase in fuel economy is large. However when you have to do a 25% increase to meet CAFE standards by using a joint gas/electric package...and still don't meet the 22.2 mpg for MY2007 let alone the increase for the next couple years, I think you may going about things the wrong way...especially when the new clean diesel engines are getting close to 30mpg.
