Unlike the performance:
Cayenne Hybrid 0-60: 6.8 sec [1]
Cayenne Diesel 0-62: 8.3 sec [2]

Better for the environment? Well what exactly do you mean by that?

Personally, I could care less about some CO2 which coincidentally only accounts for a very small percentage of total GHG. Estimates vary, but CO2 from "transportation" (airplanes, ships, trains, cars, etc) accounts for just over 1% to under 5% of the total GHG on the earth. Go look it up, I used to wholeheartedly believe in this CO2/ClimateDisaster stuff until I actually took the time to look it up.

Ponder this, you take a toxic material from a mine in Canada, process it (using tons of energy to make the hybrid's batteries), and at the end of its lifecycle, you have to deal with it. Only now, the toxic material is spread across the world instead of just being buried in that one canadian location.

Diesels are so clean nowadays that their harmful emissions (NOx, PM, etc) are on gasoline-like levels. They also are now a nightmare of complexity, costs and warranty issues, and the abrupt drop in sales that automakers in the US have experience (diesel pickups) is a clue that people don't really care about super-duper ultra clean emissions, they just want something that is reliable, clean, and cost effective.

All those morons concerned about CO2 should do the Earth some good and stop exhaling every 30 seconds. Just think how much better we'll all be!
